What a friggin' pig! You dang right we are interested. There was a 92 killed (speared) here last fall. Do you have any information on this catch? I see the short bent butt in one of the pictures, but doubt that this fish was caught deep dropping?
Rumor has it that there is a resident East coast population of these fish. They show up here and there, without any predictability. In NC waters, I have seen thousands of groupers and snappers in person over the years, but only one cubera!
A great catch!

Wow...i would be thrilled to come across that massive beast!
So whats the real deal with these fish around the NC and SC area? Is it just a small population of them..do they eat like all other bottom critters?
Thanks for sharing by the way.

I don't really know. I don't bottom fish much, so I am not sure. I don't really have many details, but I think they were deep dropping.
Awsome fish! I'd love some more info on it-
Nick, yes we have them here but most of the time they are in deep water...150' of deeper. Back in the day when I Grouper / Snapper out on the break where we were fishing a 55' ledge in 220' of water and hooked one over 200 pounds, pulled our boat aginst the stream. There were 11 caught out there that day up and down our coast and the SC coast. The big thing is I don't think we fish deep enough for them. We also have Carbrata (sp?) snapper/ grouper in the deep water. We don't here much about them either but I have seen them. Were lucky in NC, I think we have almost every kind of Grouper there is here...Nick, did you not catch a Yellow tail of fin Grouper not long ago...it is a true tropical and we got them?![]()
