    Fight N Lady BFT #2

Quick report before hitting the sack for what looks like a week of hard fishing. After a less than stellar day Friday that found us fighting gannetts, alberts, and knots while fish were caught around us, Saturday we were back in the game. With a much larger fleet of boats to contend with Capt. Shane had us back in position. Around 7am the rigger came tight and the scramble began. While clearing lines the fish took little line and before we could start backing down he was gone, pulled the hook. Needless to say, moral was low for the next three hours as fish were killed around us but we kept dragging on. Around 10am the shallow planner pops and comes tight but again little line was pulled off. With everything cleared, the fish never took more than 150 yards and for a while we thought we had pulled the hook as the fish swam right to us. As we closed to the last 200 feet the fish picked up the pace but still seemed pretty lazy. With the leader on the reel it never left as the drag was pushed up to bring the fight to a quick end. Shane redeemed himself with a great throw and the South Chatham harpoon lodged just behind the peck fin and the battle was over. The swimming hooks were brought to bear and the fish was set back to swim as we reset the spread. After boating the 88 incher I discovered why he was so lazy, his gut was loaeded with more than thirty shad.

It looks like things are getting off to a good start this year and we still have plenty of days open for our ride along trips. For details, call Capt. Shane at 252 422 0066

The next bite on a jig.
Nice job guys. I'm sure it feels good to have such a good start. Getting the bites is 85% of the battle.
