the accurates are nice. But i like others, rather stay with cheapies and when they go over its not a 100 dollar pair.

Ive had several pairs of billfishers and love them but have lost every pair over the side and cant affor to keep replacing them.

If you keep the cheap ones sprayed down good with grease they will last a good little while.

my .02 cents

A little trick that'll help keep the rust off - Oil the sheath AND the pliers regualarly... I prefer 3-n-1 oil versus WD40.

$1.78..............

I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH ONCE IN MY TIME TO HAVE OWNED A PAIR OF THE EXPENSIVE PLIERS....SEEMS THEY WERE 150 BUCKS PLUS...THEY HAD A PRETTY LEATHER SHEATH .... I DO KNOW I WISH I HAD THAT 150 LARGE RIGHT NOW......THE WIRE CUTTER "SCREW ON BLADE" THAT IS PRESENT ON THESE HIGH DOLLAR PLIERS FREAKIN BROKE WHILE IN USE....CHIPPED TO THE POINT THAT THEY WERE RENDERED USELESS....NOW A PAIR OF PLIERS THAT COST AN ARM AND A LEG SHOULD NEVER BREAK....NEVER

SO I CONTACT THE SAID MANUFACTURER BY PHONE AND ASKED ABOUT THIS CHIPPED PROBLEM......HE SAID HE COULD SHIP ME OUT A NEW "CUTTING BLADE" FOR AROUND 38 MORE BUCKS....

I AM STILL SPEECHLESS....AND I AM NOW WITHOUT ANYMORE EXPENSIVE PLIERS....

I AM CURED BEYOND ANY REASONABLE DOUBT WHEN IT COMES TO HIGH DOLLAR CUTTERS.....

I SINCE THEN PURCHASED OVER A COUPLE DOZEN CHEAP ASS PLIERS FROM WALLY WORLDS CHINA MARKET WITH THAT SAME 38 DOLLARS ....BUT AT LEAST EVERY OTHER TRIP (WHICH COVERS ABOUT 60 OFFSHORE TRIPS) I HAVE A NEW CHEAP PAIR OF PLIERS THAT WILL CUT JUST AS GOOD AS THE WALLET RAPER'S

SURE.... I HAVE BOUGHT DOZENS OF NEW CHEAP PLIERS OVER THE YEARS....BUT I DON'T HAVE A FREAKIN HEART ATTACK EVERY TIME I LOSE A PAIR OR THEY TURN TO STONE...I MEAN RUST

GIVE ME THE EL CHEAPOS....

I keep my pliers in a holdzit sheath and I've never had a problem with them seizeing up. Spray a little good ole WD in it from time to time and I'm good to go... Twenty bucks well spent!!!!

I have a pair of the $40 Brownings that I decided to try since they were on sale...they've been pretty good except they are a bit on the heavy side...they may be a little tough on the gel coat if they are dropped .

I'll stick with the cheaper things too....

Different tools for different jobs.

Split ring pliers for split rings. 2 bucks

Those curved pointed wire cutter pliers work great for opening hook eyes. 5 bucks

Cable cutter for cutting cable.
15bucks

Needle nose for pullin hooks outta these toothy tropicals. 8bucks

When I lived in New York I used a pair of Manlys for making inshore rigs and looking cool when I got on a boat.

Talking

I use the cheapos. A little 3 in 1 every other trip or so and the keep on pinchin and cuttin...

I got a pair of the Brownings when I ordered some stuff from Bass Pro, but haven't used them as they are heavy as hell and look like they would rust up pretty darn fast. So they hang in my shop and I take 'em out and look at 'em every now and then.

I like the Brownings and the Donmars. Have tried other brands over the years, but these are the two I have now. I really got tired of buying the Manleys every year. Now those guys are smart. How else can you explain convincing all those consumers they need to buy your product every year or so, even though it wears out/rusts out time after time? Which is a better deal... $30 for a pair of Manleys every year, or $125 for Donmars that I've had for over 5 years (and still going strong)? Do agree that Donmar should sell their replacement cutters at cost though.

Haven't used them too much, but the Brownings have a few trips on them and haven't rusted up after over two years. I usually use the Donmars, because like has been said, the Brownings are quite heavy. I keep the Donmars on the coil lanyard they came with and haven't dropped them in yet. And they haven't failed me yet. I put a small piece of rag down in the sheath with WD40 on it. Spray that every once in awhile and that seems to help alot. Helps snug up the pliers in the sheath too.

If Browning would figure a way to lighten up their pliers, I think those would be a good choice as far as cost/quality ratio.
