Lucky that it didn't go into deep water. Still not sure about the logistics.

ILLEGAL
Here in Pa. It is illegal to kill if it is taking refuge in water also.

I always figured if the deer was in water below the knee joint it is leagal. I love to hunt swamps and have shot a few deer in water, kinda hard to not be in water in a swamp. If a deer is chest deep it is too risky and I am sure against the law. As far as I can tell the elk was only in 12-18 inches of water when stuck. Seems ethical to me. Just sucks it died in deeper water for the guys that had to get him out.
After further review.....The first shot was questionable but the second was no problem in my book. |
