Thank you everyone for the excellent information and advice, and for making Box's job easier on him. He is doing all this for me(the captain), and the owner of the boat who are up on Cape Cod and have left him with the responsibility of watching after the boat while we are not there. It is great to have these resources available so readily. We have come to the conclusion that it is no doubt time for a new cord. At the moment, the boat is hooked up to the dock via a loaner cord but she will be treated to a brand new cord of its own just as soon as we can get one.

    Thanks again,
    Captain Ty Anderson

I would not use the same shore power connection on the dock until it is checked. In this case that appears to be a problem with dock management.

If you had that much heat at the female end, then there has undoubtedly been beat damage at the pole connection, and possibly several feet up the feeder cable.

    JMHO.

interesting - we had a little electrical problem this weekend ourselves. Finishing up a couple projects on the boat and was in the pit when I hear a soft "pop" from the shore power connection. Jumped on the dock and ran to the box, only to find the breaker tripped - thankfully! Took cord out and it smelled a little funny, electric burn kinda thing. We flipped breaker back on with cord unplugged from the baot and it shorted every time. Further inspection found a small crack in the base of the plug has apparently let some moisture in with all the rain lately and the plug had a fair amount of water in it. I was very happy when da bossman said lets go get a new one!! That has solved the problem and we are gonna dig into the old cord later this week to see if it can be safely repaired.

THANK GOD it happened with us standing right there - would have been a big nasty to get there for my next trip only to find a nasty rotted bait freezer!!!! Or MUCH WORSE!!!!!

new rule for the boat - make sure to inspect both ends of the shore power cord very often!!!!

Yep, glad you found the problem and didn't lose your bait. Sounds like the docks breaker did its job though unlike the one at Box's dock. Could save the dock and the boats.
