"East is Least" Slip Slidin' Aug 30 report intro

combine that with a full moon, no live bait and a mid day departure, one would guess we'd be in a for a long struggle yesterday.
I went to my tackle bag for sunscreen but happened to look at my watch. It was 3:30PM. Wouldn't need the sun screen that late. I took a look in the box. Plenty of ice! One small red and a pinky. How embarassing!
I thought to myself that bringing captain Lee, a man we admire and respect, fishing on a day like today was a bad call, except of course for the opportunity to showcase what the little contender could do on 3 foot NE slop at 30 knots.
Slip had run into GottaflyLee at the tackle store on Wednesday and they made plans to fish together yesterday. The plan was on, then off and back on again, as the weather could not make up it's mind. Well, Slip did! (make up his mind). Damn be the weather! Captain Lee, who fishes for a living, honored us with his presence, so we were going, come hell and high water, or for that matter a stiff NE/E breeze a full moon and a guaranteed screaming current!
Armed with fried chicken & grouper salad I showed up at the dock a little after 11, only to find them two boys locked and loaded. Captain Lee's familiar big yellow pelican case was on board. Not only we were taking the MAN fishing, but we were gonna give him something to film and photograph too! The nerve!
Hedging my bets, I took the wet side of the boat and kept quiet, so as not to build anyone's expectations too much.

It just wasn't right yesterday...... Or was it?

Oh crap. Here it comes........... Well I will take at shot at what happened.

Let's see, full moon, bad wind, and fied chicken, hmmmmmmmmmmmm. I would have to say, 1st you had the normal 2 or 3 35" gags just to warm up, then a big eye tuna bit the lite line and 10 min later he was at the boat, then you had 2 hogg fish jump in the boat... (am I close yet?) Then you guys caught a 100lb wahoo on the way in because you had to drag the tuna and figured, might as well fish our way in! So, if something better than that happened, let's hear it, because if this is what happened, its gettin old with you guys! LOL

All I have to say is that there were a couple of really special critters that decided to join us yesterday.

    Good Day

    Nick,

Any day on the water with Capt. Lee is a good day. He and I went out last Friday looking for a sailfish. After trolling for the sails with no luck we decided to end the day jigging for Gags on lite tackle. What a schooling I got. Lee jigged up 2 keepers and 3 shorts and broke 2 or 3 off to my one little short Gag-let. I was using the same jig same reel on the same side of the boat. He even offered to trade rod & reels with me. It was a great and memorable day and I learned alot.

    Thanks Again Captain Lee,

    Mike
