Is this dumb or crazy enough to work

Sitting in a class last night I started day dreaming about fishing. Yeah I probably shouldn't have but the stuff was boring and I already know the information. I helped write the SOP for chrissake. Back to the day dream.

I was day dreaming about the pristine waters of the gulf stream and the wonderfulness of the creatures out there. Then it shifted to how to catch all the glorious creatures. An idea entered my head. A thought of "damn that is stupid enough to work" echoed. I dreamed of tuners crash the surface and throwing bait. I saw Mr. White stalking the rig and getting dropped back on. I saw the Hoo going off on the deep bait. Then I got crahsed back into the real world with the words, "okay guys break time".

Well during the break I started thinking about how to rig the monstrosity and finally settled on the following. Let me know what you think.

Big fish eat small fish is the basis of this rig. A spreader bar with 6 inch squids/fish/greenmachines etc. The key is 6 inch. Behind that about 10 yards run another spreader bar with 12 inch squids/fish/greenmachines etc. Then behind that, run a big bowling pin teaser or something bigger than 12 inches. Put the big teaser about 10 yards behind the second spreader bar.

From beneath it will look like a school of bait being chased by a school of fish, being chased by a bigger fish. That seems pretty basic. Here is where it got complicated in my head. Run the same rig again but put it down in the water column about 20 feet and at slightly different lengths. The different lengths would make it stagger so that each rig can be viewed plainly from below.

Flats would go behind the first spreader, the shorts near the second spreader and the longs near the big teaser. A shot gun would be deployed as well. Two other rods would be rigged to run down near the second teaser rig at 15-20 feet deep.

I tried to draw a picture to help. What do ya'll think, is it worth trying to make or pull? Sometimes Day Dreaming is dangerous.

You never know what will work out there, you have to keep trying different things and find what works. At least you are combining techniques that work by themselves. What about the fender teaser. If someone mentioned that 10 years ago you would probably roll your eyes at it. I read a story last year where someone made a flip flop daisy chain that produced fish. Sometimes it takes something completely off the wall to get that slight edge.

This setup could work. You just have to try it. Experimenting is what its all about. Nothing would everchange or evolve if people didnt throw the ODDBALL out there.

This past year we experimented a little with the williamson lil tuna. We would run a spreader bar and then run the little tuna about 5 feet behind the bar and under the water. My capp is a strong believer in teasers that mimick feeding fish. Bowling pins and such.

The spreader produced on some days when the rest of the rods didnt get a sniff. But if there was grass withing 1 mile of that dam lil tuna it would get it. Almost gaurenteed.

Give it a try and let us know how you do bird.

I can't hurt to try it, I read an artical this year about a jumping squid lure and tried that an it produced every time... It cant hurt to switch it up from what the tuners are used to seeing...
Let me know if it works and if you don't mind I have half the inclination to rig one to try myself...

if ur putting it down deep u might wanna try dredges instead of spreader bars to give it even more dimension, i dont think it would be all that fun to pull in by hand but it might be worth the fish

I think it would definitely work if you can get it out and pull it without a major tangle. I think the more volume you can add to your spread the better off you will be, but you have to apply the law of diminishing returns. This rig looks like it will be a major pain to deploy and bring in. You will have to determine if the reward is increased enough to make it worth the trouble. I am interested to see the results. Let us know what happens when you try it.
