    The spoon wins

Pictures are from my phone, sorry.

Out in the gulf weekend before last, around the LNG tankers and south to the Nancy.

By 12:30 the sky looked like this

    and by 1:20

It wasn't that bad, we managed to stay dry, I'm not sure how as the sky all around was gray.

Landed six carite (spanish), five on the down rigger with a 2 1/2 spoon with a pink flash and one on a plain silver no.2 spoon behind an in line sinker.

No strikes on a gold 0 Clarke, nothing on a blue Yo Zuri Tobimaru and one small cavalli (jack cravalle) on an all silver rattlin' Rapala.

we throw the 3.5 inch drone spoons on spinning gear around oil rigs, then reel them in very fast through schools of hardtails, and watch kings blow up on them. sometimes they go 10"feet in the air. its an awesome site!! just another way to use the drone spoon.

i guess i do thinks a little different....I never pull a planer for spanish. i don't like messing with them. 20 foot of 20 lb mono leader running from the spoon to a trolling weight with the bead chain swivel embedded. Then tie running line to the weight. Troll at 6-8 knots depending on what the fish are looking for. I also always pull one behind a bird, thats what i usually catch the biggest ones on. My mom loves to catch spanish and this setup smokes them.

Head out the inlet, turn left after the second red bouy...
Aim your bow at the lighthouse. Put your lines in...

The larger fish were in 40 - 50 ft, with smaller ones in 25 - 35 ft.
