"Drive by" gaggin' and a busted gay shoe!
Ol' Box says that a good tittle will get the readers flocking. Let's see if this one will do the trick!
My buddy Slip has a one track mind. Once he gets to thinking in a certain direction, there can be no change of course. Around 10 this morning he was doing his best marine weather forecaster impersonation on the phone, for my benefit. "3.6 feet every 7 seconds at the tower and laying down fast!". But what about the "numerous" showers and thunderstorms and the 60% chance of rain? Everything looks black to the West, I said. "Radar is clear man".
I should have known something was up when the emergency broadcasting system came on my car radio, as soon as Slip and I hung up the phone!
I finished up my "urgent" to do pile, threw a couple of rods in the truck and headed to meet up with Slip around lunch time. By the time I got to his dock North Carolina's drought of 2007 had been suddenly reversed by several bucket fulls of rainfall.
Caught a little break near 1PM so off we went. The afternoon was calm, hot, windy, wet and cool. Slick & white capping. Raining from the NE and the SW! But that water 30 miles offshore was too pretty to not give it a go.
Anchoring quickly proved to be a waste of time, so we decided to run and gun from mark to mark drifting baits through and looking for a bite.
Black sea bass and fat red groupers bit here and there.

We put a few fish in the box when suddenly some of that SW stuff met up with some of that NE stuff with the Slip Slidin caught in the middle. I had the pleasure of seeing the first couple of lightning bolts and advised the good captain that we should be headed in. "Got a good spot four tenths of a mile this way" was the answer. The next set of bolts were not only seen, but also heard, almost simultaneously! The Slip Slidin was doing 30 knots toward the hill faster than I could put my rig in the rod holder.
Four miles later and just as I was settling in the ride routine, the boat slowed and looped around a little mark
This is what it looked like where we just came from:

We both baited up and dropped. I got bit hard and as I was working my fish I heard Slip saying : "I hope you can get the gaff yourself because I'm busy".
Double nice gags on deck within one minute of slowing the boat down!

Captain Slip was finally pleased! He gave me the thumbs up to brine the catch and head home.
Back at the dock at 7 PM

Glad you talked me into it brother Slip. Life is good.

That just made up for my night of a 8" rockfish, 7" bluefish, and one foul hooked 10" bunker.
You know something is wrong when you catch bait bigger than you gamefish.
Pretty work fellas.
Slip....are the crocks really that nice? I stared at a camo pair at Cabelas out in Utah and almost bit the bullet. The look friggin comfortable.
