Has anybody tried the Mann 50 for keeping a dredge down? Just wondering how it works compared to your typical dredge weight.

Have you or anyone you know ever had a bite off at the weight from skirting it?
never had a problem with it.. i troll all dead bait dredges.. i dont know what wahoo trolls but i never had a problem with a skirted weight..
I dont use 8lbs but i would think the light weight artificial ones would need that much! If anyone would know WAHOONBOX WOULD KNOW!!
I have a vague memory--- kinda sorta remember something--- something buried deep down in the cranium-----
Ducks Unlimited 2007, Day 2, 9:15 am, slick ass calm, cloudy, Bill Collector backing down on a Saildog off the Starboard corner, left dredge run from rigger, Offshore Innovations Dredge--- 7 long strip teaser strips-- Blue/White mojo for weight---- Blue Marlin comes in on dredge, head all wrapped up in the strips, and the big girl wanted the mojo--- crams her head up in the mess, grabs the mojo and the dredge rod with 50+lbs of drag sings like a TLD25 in free spool--- Thought the outrigger was being yanked right off the house----
Yea, it's been known to happen.

Dredge rod was bent double! Looked like a 4x8 mirror on the dredge. Yep, they will bite a skirted wieght right on the flat line as well.A 69 fish strip will get down where you need it with 3-5 lbs of weight. I can see 8 lbs working properly all day long a tiered dredge with rubber holo fish.

These weights I make work great for Da Dredge![]()
From my own experiences with both , there is a place and sea condition that has merit on both systems
I prefer the Mann lures when i can it gives me better up close to the transom presentation when needed and in addition if the current is rippin or the spread just wants to drift over i have better luck with 4-6lbs of a straight lead skirted
I have in the past pulled dredges with a combination of Holagraphic fish and stripteasers ,with triples on both sides
these things measure out at over 25 feet long
when making the effort to pull this much teaser i use the OI Titanium dredges that stay spread out and do not bow back into a narrow presentation
sometimes a cluster but usually worth the effort
The Manns can have there moments when trying to retrieve from a moving boat while hooked up,
with practice and the correct rods and low gear reels with or with out the help of a pulley system connected to you real lug and the head of the dredge it can be accomplished
my advice is try it a few times before you have the money fish on the line
I use a Mann 50 w/ the bridle that comes from tournament cable and it works just fine. Easy to put out and take in. It runs about 20ft? deep. My dredge is a holographic 6 arm strip teaser. It's not very heavy..... don't know if a heavier dredge would effect the 50 or not.
