    Downrigger for tuna

How many boats troll for tuna with a planer or downrigger for tuna? Tues we were trolling for bluefin with a downrigger until 1:00pm. Bait was there marking fish but not one runoff. Pulled the downrigger in and had our first fish in 15 min. Over the next 4 hrs we had 9 fish. The down rigger we use is set up with power pro to reduce the hum from the cable, but when its in the water we never catch fish.

How far back is your bait? You want to send it out a good 100 feet before sending it down.

We had the bait about 200' back from the planner. Its not just the downrigger, none of the baits get hit.

MANY TIMES I WISH THERE WAS A HOOK IN THE PLANER....

I WISH I HAD A QUARTER FOR ALL THE TUNA I HAVE CAUGHT ON THE PLANER AND WHEN THE PLANER WAS IN THE WATER......

I THINK IN YOUR CASE.....YOU FINALLY FOUND THE TUNA JUST AFTER THE PLANER CAME UP..........

BUT WHATYEVER....PRETTY WORK ON YOUR CATCH!!!

    I think Marty is right!

Some days you fish for hours with nothing then all of a sudden you get 5 tuna bites all at once and that's the only fish you see for the day. You just happened to pull across the school at that particular time.

The most important thing is to fish with the stuff that you have confidence in. If you don't believe in something, you're only going to go at it half-hearted. If you truly believe in your other lures/baits and not in the deep bait, I'd probably not put down the deep bait (if I were you). Me? I'm gonna run that deep mother most of the time
