Double Splice Wind-on Leaders Question

When you make up your own wind-on leaders using hollow braid Spectra and Flurocarbon or Mono, how serious do you get when testing them before you put them to use? How close to break rate do you push it?
Thank's...John

I test it against a heavy drag and pull with hard surges. If it holds....I fish it. Haven't had one pull yet.

I don't like to pull them too hard because they could lose strength. I try to keep around 1/3 of breaking strength like I fish em. When you are first starting or using new mono or braid it's a good idea to make a couple extras and pull them to their breaking points. A couple of real heavy ones I've made we had to hook them to the truck to get them to snap. Haven't had one fail on a fish yet...knock on wood!
