    Double Header Sails

I received a call last Wednesday from my friend Dr. Chis Hasty. He is usually very busy in the Fall because he covers the East Carolina Pirates football team as the Orthopedic Surgeon. This weekend he had off because it was his 40th birthday. Chris said I want to go get some Wahoo and put some blood on the new boat (33 Grady White Express). I called Matt (JMS-ILM) to see if he wanted to go kill a Wahoo Saturday and the answer was $%** yes. We left the dock (Port Side Marina in Morehead City) around Six AM and headed for the Rise. Clearing the inlet the conditions were a mixed 2-3 mixed sea but no match for that 33 Grady with Twin Yamaha 350s. We headed for the Rise and as we moved offshore we could see a storm on the horizon and on the XM Weather screen. When we arrived to the the spot the storm was offshore of us so Matt and I started putting the lines out.The Sniper Rod bait in first then the Left Long then the Right Long and then the Flat Line and then BLAAM left long goes off screaming and then BLAAM right long goes off screaming. Three to Five minutes of fishing and two fish on. The first fish came to the boat and never jumped we didn't know it was a sail until it was only about 20 feet behind the boat. Matt grabs the leader and we pull the fish in the boat for a picture but know one was ready with a camera. Not a good photo on the first fish. No problem we have another one on the line. The next sail comes to the boat and puts on a nice show next to the boat.Double Header Sails-fishing-trip-may-15-2007-012.jpg
Both fish hit Blue and White one on a Blue Water Candy Mini Jag and the other a Blue and White Sea Witch tied by Matt. Two sails released and now its time to find the Wahoo. We fished all morning and not another bite only one short strike on the planer. Around high noon the real goes off and the soon after the only Wahoo of the day hit the deck. The fish was in the 30lbs class. I didn't get a picture of the Wahoo on the boat but I think this will do.

I think Chris had a great Birthday it had to be better than going to see the ECU Pirates ship get sunk by 5th Ranked West Virgina. Thanks again Chris for the ride and thanks to Matt for the help in the pit.
