Seen that cowboy stuff at Sunset this year and alot of "What Ifs" go through your mind when you see it. No need to for such a rush at the docks.

Rember the boat on the Rocks last year when you had to call the coast guard.I believe that's the type of people you are talking about. I rember you saying look at this idiot as he blew by. Then when we cruzed in we found him run aground on the point.
See this type of macho BS around the docks here rather infrequently. Have seen it a few times in Hatteras, but far more cowboys seemed evident during my few visits to MHC.
Of course, we had the same crap in the Navy, with hotshot CO's who thought their quick-responding 80,000 SHP gas turbine power-plants could get them out of anything. More than one approached the pier too fast, with the expected result.
Agree with all the comments above re keeping the speed down, and do it all "gently".

Yesterday I was coming into Little Creek Inlet and had a hard time keeping up with a GW doing about 45+ KTS.![]()

36.8 Kts according to GPS, against the ebb flow. I usually put it on the pins once inside the jetty to check for WOT RPM - first indication of a developing problem. We just repowered and are still seeing what performance we get with different loads in different conditions.Originally Posted by 5oClock
Always drop to no-wake speed as I come around the turn. Yesterday we headed for Cove Marina for fuel and fish cleaning, then back out to head for our slip on Pretty Lake.
Around the slip or docks almost never above idle speed.

I hope woo-woo has insurance. Santa may still come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER into the poles, I rarely even back down on fish. If I can't beat them at a standstill or get in the dock with just the spin of the wheel its not worth the damage @ a later date. I am a firm believer that speed kills althought the Stain don't go fast forward either![]()

You've hit it head on HooBox. I have seen it many times in the marinas. In Hatt, O.I. and O.C. Especially during tourney time or when the tourists are gathered waitin the days catch. Must be more of a local thing along the east coast with some. I've fished S.Fla, St Thomas and Isla Mujeres but never have witnessed the show of stupidity rolling off the stern at 1000 rpms just to be slamed into forward with a puff of black smoke before dock meets fiberglass. These guys can't be paying all the bills.
As for the Inlet Dance where some think tonage has the right away, that day will come. The Neptune Gods of the deep will reep 'karma karnage'. It always comes back.
