I can't stand any one of those self-proclaimed leaders in aquatic conservation...I am sure you have seen him on tv and read his column in SWS...I have never seen or used any of his tactics...he cracks me up, I have always been taught to keep my tip up and bent when fighting fish...I have seen him on tv displaying poor angling techniques, like pointing his rod staight out while fighting a tuna or billfish, and you know what people put these people in God like status, and I wonder why I get so many boneheads on charters.....oh don't get me started on that either I just finished a guiding stint in Alaska on the wild pacific for King slmon and halibut...we were mooching possibly the worlds easiest fishing technique (or maybe salmon are just that stupid) these people pay big money to come out there and you think they would be happy with the experience, nope they want the carnage...how many boxes will I get is all they ask? so you send them home with 200 pounds a piece and they still complain, halibut aren't big enough, can we catch a 50lbs salmon....why aren't I getting a bite...I saw a fishing show on tv and this is how they did it....well you know what in the begining I cared and showed people, by the end I did not care because I realized they only cared about the MEAT, not the experience so F them....by the way mooching consists of cut plugging a herring,(like for snapper) slow trolling and dropping the weight to the bottom and reeling it upmaking the herring flash...very simple...any idiot can do it...yeah right you would think we were trying to build an atom bomb, how does the reel work they ask...ok on day one, I'll show you, by day four GET OFF MY BOAT! On the other hand the clients I get up here for codfishing or striped bass fishing in the spring and summer are awesome...hardly ever a problem, but maybe that is because they are not all wealthy beauracrats, who get sent on vaca's for selling cars or meeting quota's ect!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry this rant probably made zero sense but you would get it if someone from N.Dakota got on your boat in complete ORVIS wear and tried to tell you where to go and how to do it, because they were there last year!!!!! AHHHHHH! I'll never go back!

I had the pleasure of tossing him off my boat before a trip! I was working for Sportfishing magazine and he was with SWS. Sport Fishing wanted to extend an olive branch and set up a trip with him and me. He walked on my boat and proceeded to tell me how we were going to fish live hoos off a kite and that you need to wire the hook to the hoos bill after hooking it. Thats too much handling. That tournament debate though was the last straw. "Exploiting fish?" give me a break! I have grown a contempt for the hypocracy of all forms of reporting. Unfortunately since the public keeps buying it we are doomed to have it around.
