A DIFFERENT MENU ON THE RUN-OFF

I WAS TRYING TO THINK BACK WHEN THE LAST TIME I ACTUALLY RAN A LEGITIMATE ALL DAY BOTTOM FISHING -BLUEFISH JIGGING COMBO TRIP.....IT WAS 1986.....THATS 23 YEARS AGO...I WAS 22 LBS LIGHTER THEN....


HOW EASY IT WAS TO FORGET THE FRESH SMELL OF CALAMARI THAT STAYS WITH YOU FOR DAYS....AND HOW EASY IT WAS TO FORGET ALL THE TINY CUTS ONE RECEIVES WHILE HANDLING AND RELEASING 100 PLUS UNDER-SIZE BLUEFISH ON DA STING SILVER PLUS BOXING UP A FEW DOZEN 1-2 LBERS...

I HAD FORGOTTEN THAT SOME PEOPLE HAD NEVER HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF EVER FISHING IN THEIR LIFE PRAYTELL....AND HOW I MUST PATIENTLY DEMONSTATE HOW TO SIMPLY TURN THE HANDLE ON A SPINNING REEL TO THE NEWBIES...IF YOU HAVE NEVER CRANKED IN A FISH THEN ONE MUST BE TAUGHT. .....AND I AM A TEACHER.

I HAD EASILY FORGOTTEN THE CRY FOR HELP EVERY 30 SECONDS FROM THE FISHING NEWBIES SAYING "HEY CHIEF, BAIT PLEASE" .....OR ...."PLEASE TAKE THIS BLACK BASS OFF FOR ME"....."GOT ANOTHER ONE!"

I MUST HAVE RELEASED OVER 200 FISH THIS DAY.....BASS THAT DIDN'T QUITE MAKE THE MINIMUM....OR JUST SO MANY BLUEFISH WE NEEDED NO MORE...I HAD FORGOTTEN TO BE DELICATE ON RELEASING THE SMALL FRYS...THEY WERE ONLY INNOCENT HUNGRY VICTIMS ....THEY NEVER KNEW THEY WOULD BE SNATCHED UP FROM THEIR DINING AREAS AND PLACED ON DECK BY SOME GUY NAMED WAHOONBOX ...HALF SCARED TO DEATH...GASPING FOR AIR....I MEAN WATER....."TAKE IT EASY LITTLE GUY...I WILL HAVE THIS HOOK OUT IN A SEC'....AHHHH....THATS BETTER....BACK YOU GO..........SEE YOU IN A COUPLE MORE YEARS "


THANK YOU JESUS AS THE WIND SUBSIDED A BIT ......WE WERE JUST OFF THE BEACH ABOUT 3 MILES WHEN CAPT BRIAN SAID "GET EM UP"...."WE ARE GOING TO CREEP OFFSHORE ANOTHER 6 MILES OR SO AND SEE IF WE CAN SQUANDER UP SOME GROUPERS AND BIGGER BASS ETC "......THERE WAS A PRETTY GOOD SWELL COMING HEAD ON TO THE BLACK BOAT AND WE TOOK OUR TIME SO NOT TO KNOCK THE CROWD AROUND....ONE SOUL WAS ALREADY ON THE RAIL OF DEATH FIGHTING THE HEAVE HO.......

YEP....SHE WAS HONKING OUT OFF THE BEACH THIS DAY

...TODAY'S TRIP WAS SCHEDULED TO BE TUNA, MAHI, WAHOO, & BILLFISH....MY LOVE...MY PASSION...BUT 25-30 KNOTCHES OUT AT 50 FATHOMS WAS MORE THAN WE WANTED.......TO GET THE TRIP IN WE ADDED 8 LITE SPINNERS...AND SOME TLD 15 CLASS RODS....A BUCKET OF 8 OZ LEAD SINKERS....20 LBS OF CIGARS....20 POUNDS OF CALAMARI....

I WORE MY WHITE GRUNDENS ALL DAY....THEY WERE LITERALLY PUNISHED...THEY SEEN SO MUCH BLOOD, SLIME, GUTS & FUNK THIS DAY I FELL I OWE THEM AN APOLOGY.

THANK GOD I WAS NOT ASKED TO CLEAN FISH BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN ME 3 DAYS AND A WAKE UP TO GET THE JOB DONE!......MOSTLY SMALLER SIZE FISH WITH NOT THAT MANY TROPHIES GOING TO MY BOX ....BUT WE WERE HAPPY WITH A GOOD MESS OF PANSIZE BLACK BASS AND SOME MIDGET LEGAL FRESH BLUEFISH MADE FOR A FINE COMPANY COOKOUT FOR OUR PARTY THAT EVENING

WE WERE ALSO BLESSED WITH RELEASING A FEW AMERICAN REDS AND GAGS THAT DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA...AND WE WERE REWARDED WITH A FEW KEEPERS WHICH PROVIDED MANY HIGH FIVES AMONGST THE PLAYERS.....




THE STIMULUS PLAN IS WORKING!!!....WE ADAPT TO THE WEATHER AND CHANGE GAME PLAN IF THE PARTY WANTS TO ....WE CHANGE WEAPONS WHEN NEEDED...AND WE HAD A GREAT TIME ON THE WATER AND HAVE FISHED 3 DAYS SO FAR THIS WEEK....

Marty- I'm leaving work in about 30 mintues, I'll be down tonight. Another awesome report, especially now that I know it doesn't matter that the forecast is good for this weekend, I'll probably have the chance to tug on something no matter what the wind decides to do. I am JACKED UP

That's one hell of a nice red bluefish and camo black sea bass there Box.
The angler's smile says it all bro. Congrats to captain B and you for showing these folks the best time possible under the weather conditions. Fine report!

That sounds just like what we do on the headboats, minus the bluefish. Yes the squid smell never leaves you but I think the boston mackeral might be worse.

Way to adapt, looks like you put fish in the boat and the clients had smiles, in the end that's all that matters. You guys earn a paycheck figureing out ways to salvage a trip and the charters get to go out and have a day to tell their friends about. Nice report, glad you guys where able to make it out.

Good luck this weekend looking for some more reports, I'm land locked with family duties.

should be a primo weekend weather wise. i'd love to have a few of them undersize blues to drop down in the 120-140' deep! guarantee giant seamonster would inhale it then hang on.
