    Shoe,

One of your best post yet. It’s not always about just catching fish. Sometimes it’s about enjoying the creation and being humbled by what we have. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Nansea. I want to thank again for your hospitality this past summer during my trip to Boston. I hope we are able to share a PIT sometime in 2009.

    Shoe ....

Thanks for the effort put into this post and sharing your experience. I have to say that I had a very similar experience at a resort in Barbuda. My favorite part was at the end of the day after the GM of the resort went to bed the guys would relax a little and start telling stories and laughing. It was in those times that I got to know the locals that worked there. They were the most amazing people I had ever met in my life. They had an innocence, warmth, and beauty to them that I had never seen before. I also learned about what I would call "relative education". These guys would not be considered educated back here in the states but they were some of the most brilliant people I have ever met. I felt uneducated there.... watching them live from the water and earth with such proficiency changed my life and truly made me feel like a child. I wanted to learn. It also blew me away that 99% of the americans that were there were completely blind to them. They would look right past them and consider them servants. It made me sad for what these people were missing. I kept up with one guy in particular for a while but our communication faded. My next trip there, I was crushed to learn that he had died suddenly from a blood clot in his leg that let go and ended up in his brain. He was 32. Anyway ... thanks for taking us with you on your journey and reminding me of that experience.

    Dude, again...I am impressed!

That was a great read and a well thought out thought for the day...or lifetime. I know what you mean man. People all ove the world live a much simpler life than the most simple of americans. Most of our complications are just that...inconvenient complications that don't really matter in the long run. It's all better when that rod bends over and that reel tells you in no uncertain terms the fish you want is going the other direction

I just went back and re-read this one and it has made me even more excited to go back to see our friends. We talked to Javier the other night and he said they were fishing with the gear that I left the other day and caught a rooster from the surf...he said they were all so excited and couldn't wait to show me where they caught it...I can't wait either

Great post Shoe! I have had a few experiences similar to this on the yucatan well south of the traditional fishing areas all built up. Some are gone now and others are still there, but still a treat to see how greatful and excited the true working class is of this world to share in some of the experiences and "vacations" that so many take for granted. We used to take 4/o and 6/0 senators down to them as tips b/c they couldn't order them because they would get stollen through the mail and were too expensive to buy. Like you said earlier, fresh fishing line was a hot item as well. I grew up traveling down there and fishing on pangas and i know have one! Ever time i get on one i remember Jorge, Esteban, Rosalio, etc... and just how lucky we have it. Esteban would take us to areas we could wade for permit and bones. Rosalio would give him a day off when we came, but he would make more money in a day with us than he normally would and go home with some goodies! Good times to remember and to return to. Some of the places i have been back as many as 12 times over the years and hope to go back soon. Looks like i may have to travel to the other side of Mexico Now. Thanks for the story again.
