    Death for Fleas???

For the first time in 6 years we have fleas in the yard There has been a onslaught of rabbits all over the yard and I guess the fleas came with them. One by one I have been sniping them when the wife isn't home. But Jehz, they're popping up by the droves, 3 here 2 there, next I'll be setting up Claymores to mass kill them and calling Cherry Point to Napalm them

Both of my dogs have always had Advantix on them every month and that doesn't seem to repel or kill the little ba$terds. Now both are wearing flea collars and the Advantix to no avail? I have sprayed every thing I can find that says it kills fleas but they are still screwin and chewin By the looks of it I have ridded the yard of everything but the fleas, no ants, crickets, mosquitos or greenheads or much of anything else that crawls, flys or jumps!

Someone told me about a pill for the dogs that is better then the external treatments so I'm checking with the Vet tomorrow about that.

I own stock in Seven Dust now and it seems to have moved them out of the dogs favorite digging and laying spots. But they're every where else

Any thing out there to spray that will finally kill these little pest????

The next bite on a jig.
This place has the goods. I haven't gotten flea stuff from them, but I have gotten a bunch of other stuff. I don't even mess with the hardware store watered down crap anymore.

Comfortis is the pill you want, ask a vet to prescribe it.

Frontline worked on my lab for years, but he was covered last fall while on it. One Comfortis and 24 hours later, not a flea.

These hot dry summers with the occasional gully washer really brings out the fleas.
I worked for a pest control servce for two years many many years ago and have suffered from time to time with infestation as well. One can speculate all day long as to whether the fleas are coming from unhatched eggs that the frontline/Sevin doesn't kill or whether they are newly brought in from outdoors.
This will work every time and it takes 3 treatments:
The absolute best thing is to bomb your whole house with flea bombs. If you can't do this, go buy wettable Sevin and spray it good on all your carpets, couches, etc. and anything that isn't a hard surface.
Then keep up with the Sevin outside. One good rain and the Sevin you applied is worthless. I prefer wettable Sevin even outdoors, but the powder will work fine. If possible, spray under the house as well, but a bomb will work the best.
Redo each treatment every 7 days (as I recall the incubation period for a flea is about 10 days so you want to kill the new one before they become sexually mature and start the whole process all over again).
All it takes is to miss a spot inside the house where flea eggs are and you have a new crop of those bastards all over again. This is why the bombs inside the house work so much better than spraying.

When I had that problem a few months ago, I gave my 14 year old dog a flea pill (Comfortis). Yes, it killed all the fleas on him but within 5 hours he had a horrible seizure. This is an uncommon side effect of this pill but one that is noted on the package insert. The company took responsibility for it & reimbursed me for the pills ($80) & the emergency vet visits. Unfortunately he had two more seizures & passed away.
I would highly suggest hiring a pest control service to spray your home. There is a new product out that prevents fleas from reproducing & it works great. We haven't had a flea since.
    Good luck.

I would recommend if you have any gas appliances with any of the pilots on be very careful. I remember a while back someone setting off some of the aresol bombs in their house and the pilot light was lit on their gas logs and a fire ensued.

Thanks Glenn, luckily we haven't had any in the house but I went ahedd and bombed it a couple days ago. Hopefully between the yard spraying and that pill I can win the battle!

I will second the Comfortis. Used it for a couple of years now with my Lab and fleas are a thing of the past.
