    whitey,

mostly fishing from 100 fathoms to 400 fathoms and down deep!!!. haven't dialed in a specific depth. still trial and error. i've been sworn to secrecy on the rig, ut there is a lot of info that have been published recently to give anybody a start. not to mention our rig still needs a lot of tweeking. no electric reels for us too. we do it the sporty way and standup too!!!.

    Casey.

Oh man, I want to see them purple colors in full daylight. I want to see them jump! I have seen lit up threshers doing it and will never forget it. To see the king of all pelagics catching air after rising from 300 fathoms would be a dream come true. How do I get in on this deal?

    Great post

My boat with Capt Mark and Eddie fought one for 7 hours two summers ago in the NE canyons and last March for 3 hours and lost both when the hook pulled. Pretty decent fish in the 300 lb range is best estimates. Was on night trip on Holloween on our boat the HOOKED UP II and we had 5 with two being pups and going back and the other quality fish that the hooks pulled. That is the problem with swords of size and it takes time to fight these fish with a low probability of boarding them with their soft upper mouths. There has to be a better way to keep this from happening but so far on our boat most of the bigger ones over 200 lbs have been lost after long battles. At night one of the problems is they have come way up in the water column and ate tuna baits on lighter tackle no deeper than 40 feet so you never know at night. May try a night trip out of Morehead City this winter after GBT season or even a day trip in the deep. Thanks for the post and good luck with the day swordfishing

Bigg09 ...Congrats on a great trip. Sounds like you had an exciting day. What type of rig wee you using? Stupid question but are you using braid seems to be a big factor in getting tight on the really deep fish (1,000 feet plus) are you usinga breakaway weight as well

The capatin (Dean Panos) I charter with probably about 4 times a year in Miami is tearing them up during the daytime. My son and I are going down again on January 11th to go get em. They have had great success with them and all the fish seem to be much bigger during the day

The common factor is most people are getting bit as soon as tehy reach bottom or on the drop

Caveman ...What was the drag settings on the 7 hour fight. I cant even imagine the agony after it pulled, it must have been a beast of a sword. I dont have a boat, I charter more than I'm inclined to admit (LOL) and one captain I fish with believes in fighting them with lower drags for prolonged periods of time and the other person I fish with uses heavier drags and say Id rather it come unbuttoned earlier in the fight. Its my favorite fish to fish for other than Makos
