they are digenetic trematodes.....you may know them as flukes from high school biology class. these in particular are not harmful to humans. on the other hand, just to be safe...deliver all wahoo you catch to me for proper disposal.

i know enough about critters like this to get me by. that, and i did stay in a holiday inn express last night.

As far as the dark specs in meat around rib cage...seen those too..i think they are some kind of worm or parasite, not a heald up wound. Just cut around them and you should be fine. As to the leeches in their stomachs...they are in almost every wahoo I ever caught except maybe the wee-hoos. We would try and guess how many many would be in there for who's buying first round.

What I do now-a-days is flash freeze A.J.'s and wahoo for a very short time and then eat 'em fresh....that's a good sushi trick too, the meat slices nicely when it semi-frozen, or on the thaw, plus it kills any unseen parasites too. A.J.'s will freeze well, but wahoo like mackeral is more oily of a fish and we all know oil does not freeze too well....especially for any length of time....even when encased in water.

8 or 9 wire dude. Actually when pulling a wahoo straight forward, there is surprisingly very little resistance, even with a big one. They actually almost swim right in the boat.

But like you said earlier, doesn't make for much of show.
