Cutting the anchor shank down
Anchor wells generally are designed for the length of the shank for the anchor that is deemed right for the size of the boat. Well once you put your anchor line sometimes you have to move the rope around to fit the anchor in right. If I cut the shank down a few inches get things to fit well, how much is that going to getting a good anchor stick and without causing the anchor to drag?

Crab mustard is good
The more you cut, the more it will effect the anchors ability to dig into soft bottom.
But also you will cut into the galvanized coating causing it to rust and stain the anchor line. If you don't care about that than no big deal. I would try to avoid cutting it.
What about something to keep the rope out of that area, 4" PVC maybe??

Alex it will effect it a lot and even more so in deep water as it will not have the angle you need to get it to bite. It will also cause it to break loose easer while on anchor...
