Cut yourself free
If you run a center console you probably wear bibs. One of the most important pieces of safety gear is a knife to cut yourself free from whatever it is trying to take you out of the boat
Problem is your wearing bibs and your knife is clipped to a pocket, mounted in an easy to reach place...your tangled and can't reach either...double expresso if your running solo or your mate and crew can't get to you in time....
I have just found the best addition to your gear when your wearing bibs. It's a small sheath knife (high quality stainless) like a bait knife, that mounts into a special plastic sheath that mounts upside down tip up and handle down on your suspenders. The sheath and knife are made for eachother so it's a real positive lock to retain the knife and if you can reach your chest you can pull it out one handed no fumbling around and get yourself free. Just reach and pull it down and out.
One of my best customers sons works in Alaska on a halibut sportfishing boat and went over last season. He's strong and wirey and got himself free. I'm gifting him one this week. This is not some big ticket item guys but it sure can save your bacon.
Another view so you can see how the sheath opens and snaps shut onto your suspenders
I'll send Poon Man the link.
Im very serious about safety and we have sportmans' relase knifes on board and in the leadermans' teeth, a nice spring action pocket knife that I purchased from Stew...You have to get yourself free with only one hand and pronto.
