Critical Swivel Failure

My guess was that when the swivels were made, they were bent too fast running through the tooling machine, and the heat created a weak spot, or microscopic tension cracks.

Its only a guess, and you'd think that all of the bends would be just as brittle. Maybe they are, but it just so happens that is the bend that breaks at the first stress. Could be as simple/dumb as they were in a rush to make them, and they sped up the machine to to make a lot more, and were using cheaper wire from a differant Asian vendor

same thing happened to me this year for first time ever. i agree with box on this.i always shut swivel at end of day and never put on lug eye but sometimes the new guy does and then reals it REAL tight streatching it.makes sense,

If the swivels are stored with other types of metal...i.e. hooks, crimps, other brands of swivels...Can and do the dissimilar metals in the same container (plano box) cause corrosion, pitting, rust, embrittlement, etc?

If they are together in the same bin, maybe but not likely. Galvanic corrosion requires dissimilar metals to be in electrical contact and immersed in an electrolyte. Air is not an electrolyte and if the different metals are in different bins in your plano box, they are not in electrical contact.

This problem sounds like a QA issue with the manufacture of the swivels, there seems to be less and less quality hardware out there these days.
