Creek-A-Boo - Second event of the VA Pup Series
Hey folks,
The "Creek-A-Boo" fished the second event of the VA Pup Series this past weekend in Lynnhaven Inlet. It's modeled after the FLW tour where each team can weigh two fish, the combined weight wins. There's also a calcutta for the single biggest fish, and another for the fish with the most spots. Teams that finish 2, 3, or 4 earn points that'll determine who gets invited to the October "Shoot-Out" It was blowing a solid 25NE Friday night through Saturday mid-day... then slacked off to 20NE It made the trips across the open sections in the 14' john boat a little bumpy; even wished I had a "manziere". The NE blows a LOT of water into the inlet, and the fishing was outstanding.Friday we fished from 7:30 - 2:00 in the morning, landing over 25 fish and keeping one that was 25 7/8" (the limit is 26" in VA)... and releasing 7 that were over the 26 max. All fish were on cut mullet fished on shell bars against the marsh banks. Saturday we hit the water, after a short nap, at 5:30. Back to the same spots... and some points further back in the inlet. Again, the fishing was great. When we left at 11:30, we'd boated another 20 fish keeping one that was 25 1/2" and releasing another 5 fish over the max. After some family chores we were back on the water at 2:30... you guessed it, at the same shelly points catching more quality reds. After boating 5 "over" fish, we finally landed one that was perfect @ 25.5". One of our "over" fish had 9 spots on it... PRETTY fish, but it had to go back... daggit. The final results of the tourney are as follows: Heaviest Total of Two fish ($320.00 payout) 14 lbs. 13 oz. FinFever 13 lbs. 4 oz. Creek-A-Boo (3 pts.) 12 lbs. 14 oz. LynnInletFisher (2 pts.) 11 lbs. 14 oz. Cypt Beer (1 pt.) Heaviest Single Fish Calcutta ($130.00 payout) 7 lbs. 11 oz. FinFever 6 lbs. 11. oz Creek-A-Boo (3 pts.) 6 lbs. 9 oz. Creek-A-Boo (2 pts.) 6 lbs. 7 oz. LynnInletFisher (1 pt.) Fish with the most Spots Calcutta ($130.00 payout) 13 Spots FinFever 5 Spots Cypt Beer / LynnInletFisher (2.5 pts each) 4 Spots MABC (1 pt.) Point Earners - September: Creek-A-Boo: 6 Cypt Beer: 3.5 LynnInletFisher: 5.5 MABC: 1 Nice 30" - 9 Spotter that was released. ![]()

Box - The "Creek-A-Boo" is going to be a hard one to let go. She's a 1973 Lowe 1448 with a Nissan 18HP that's got countless hours on it. The hulls been beat to hell on the shell bars and tumps of the inlet... we sealed her with 5 tubes of 5200 and a putty knife last fall... she's "tight" again. She's got a diamond plate truck tool box mounted in the bow, 10 rod holders, 3 courtesy lights, an insulated fish box (two throw cushions you can stuff a fish between), beautiful mullet-oil coated decking... and has probably seen more reds come over the rail than any boat in VA.
We've always joked that when it was "time", we'd spray paint her in bronze and put her out back as a memorial.

Pretty work Honey. I am glad I ain't the only one who knows what 5200 and putty knives are for. Creek-a-Boo will be just fine for alot more tide changes. Good luck in the October leg of the event. Thanks for the report. Can I get a pic of the nearest daymarker?
