Crazy Beach!

Wrightsville Beach, NC was crazy, crazy, crazy this weekend. Two tournaments (Heneman sail & Greater Wilmington Open King) going on side by side on the waterway. That combined with very nice summer weather had everybody, their mother, pet poodle and grandparents on the water.

Squid, JMS and myself, having fished a long day on Friday, decided to do the tourist thing yesterday. Ride the waterways, observe the shenanigans and may be try to catch a flounder in between.

We saw many sights. The good (bikinis), the bad (mullets & rebel flags on jon boats) and the downright ugly (300 lb granny in black mini summer dress trying to tie up a triple decker cruiser in a downpour! )

Watched some of the King mack weigh in at the Dockside between rain showers. Big fish for a small tourney. Several in the 30's with a 41 winning. All the Heneman boats were parading by us in the waterway on their way to report and weigh in at the Bridgetender. A good many sail flags flying. The coolest sight was captain Jaime Rushing flying one on his 17 foot skiff!
Dockside Cheeseburgers were hot, the onion rings crunchy and the miller lite nice and cold.
It's good to be a tourist in your hometown every now & then.

Oh yes, the fishing! Slow. Fished a little here and there near shore. Had a fine catch of oyster toads large & medium, a half dozen trout and a half dozen flounder. A total of 6 keeper fish, 3 each flounder & trout. The fishing highlight of the day, however, was without a doubt "horseshoe" Mathew popping yet another cherry of his on the "SeaBiscuit" just 2 miles off the hill:

May be there's a few billion of his egg mates that have moved in our waters. Good to see this little fella.

Cheers,
SeaBiscuit

Thank you Nick for a awesome, relaxing afternoon. Just what I needed after a stressful Friday chasing the goobers around.

The American Red within sight of the beach was an awesome sight and one that may never happen again. The stuff that happens on the Seabiscuit boat never ceases to amaze me.

I feel sorry for the goobers the next time we get offshore. They have no idea what they are in for!

Don't see that many American Reds around - not to mention right off the beach. You guys always have something in the bag.

Nice catch fellas. An ARS inshore is a feat in itself, almost as worthy as winning a King Mackeral tourney.
As for the "SLOW FISHING", we encountered the same on saturday. A beautiful day on the water but the fish had lockjaw! Ran over 100 miles and only managed 6 keeper's, reds and scamps. Maybe we all should have put some dinks out and trolled for sailfish.
Anyway good job and as always we're already looking foward to the next report!

Great day to be a local tourist it sounds like! Very cool little ARS. While slightly disappointed there were no photos of the Granny in the downpour, I am truly saddened by the lack of pics of the Oyester Toads. As for the Dockside burger and fries report...just plain cruel teasing us like that. I could taste and smell em from here. Congrats on the fun day and thanks for the writeup. What a hoot!

Crazy, Crazy it was also on the slick calm east side this weekend. Had never seen that many boats! Maybe I'll start prefering some wind!!!!
Pretty cool to get that ARS in shallow water...
