Well, now that the waters are reaching the 55-60 degree temp. the crappies are moving from the main lake into the creeks to prepare for the spawn. This is prime time because over the next month they pack in there like sardines. My boat has 12 rod holders, 6 in front for me and 6 in the back for my partner. We tie on 1/32 -1/8 oz jigs (depending on how deep we want to fish) with different colored jig bodies. Then we add a small crappie minnow (much like a ballyhoo with a skirt!). Set the speed anywhere from .07-1.5 MPH and let out 30-50 ft of line. We fish in 3-12 feet of water and adjust the depth of our jigs by speed, weight of the jig or the amount of line we let out. In April the action is fast and you can catch well over 100 fish a day and most are fat with eggs. I will try and post some video in the coming weeks. Meanwhile anyone who lives close to the Triangle and would like to go sometime, let me know. I fish Jordan and Falls of the Neuse. You could meet me there.
