Couple of my new Striper Toys!!

Well we obviously haven't been fishing with all this damn wind lately so I have been keeping myself busy rigging. FightingIrish45 and I did a little shopping over the weekend and bought some materials to make some dredges up. I sure he will post some pics of his creations but here are a couple of mine.

This first one is a Sea Striker 4-arm umbrella rig that I custom bent on a angle and then used heavier mono and installed some extra shads in the mid way point of each arm since the original only had 5 shads all of which were hook baits. I kept the color the "stock color" that came with it (black/pearl) and put this thing together for super cheap!

    Black/Pearl 4-Arm

The materials for this next one were purchased for a little more money since I went with a 6-arm configuration and 13 shads. The bar was about 9 bucks, shads are 79 cents a piece, and swivels and hooks were not much more and if you have this stuff in stock at your home rigging table then you really don't even need to buy it. The hooks I went with were Gamakatsu O'Shaughnessy 7/0 and all terminal tackle was 90-100 pound test rated except the leader which I used 150#. Everything was crimped on this rig using 1.6 crimps. The trailer bait I made white trying to create the look of a sick, slower, injured bait. Some like to mix all of the colors up but I figured I would start with this layout and see how it works. I also used the heavier tackle for simply the size of it plus 150# leader is stiffer and will not tangle as much as 50# would when you are stowing the rig or unhooking multiple fish on the deck. The heavier leader will definitely help out when slammer Blues are in the area as well.

    Chartreuse 6-Arm

Rigging these yourself is easy and sure beats the 45+ dollars for a premade rig plus you get to have the fun of rigging it yourself and satisfaction of catching a slob on your own homemade creation.

Now if we could only get out to use these things!

Awsome looking rigs . I like using crimps as well. The idea of bending to bars to suit your needs is a great idea . Good luck with them.

Thanks a lot guys for the support!! Hopefully somebody can get some good info from this post and go get some meat!

Now the next mission is coming up with a rule of thumb for how many feet of braid I let out and how big of a drail I use to get these bad boys to run just a few feet off the bottom.
