Strange but true more people die around the world with a .25 cal than any other Fact mod 71 Bernetta small light compact .22lr ammo anywhere!!! I realize that carrying odd type ammo like THV or Hollow points in certain states is impossible, but here is an answer to you all, including unformed officers, If you cannot carry THV, by the way they will punch through 37 layers of body Armour Kevlar, not a plate but just Kevlar and still stop in the body, dumping all the energy in the right place, entry wound is massive no exit.
Any way I digress. BAT rounds take a look.

Jawz, I respect your opinion. However, I fail to see how an off-duty LEO scares you. How is he any less trained, ready, etc. when he is clocks out? Now firearms and alcohol does not mix that is certain, but I believe most states prohibit concealed carry in places that serve alcohol. I know SC does.

Here's a short story about off-duty LEOs carrying....As I wrote earlier in this post my grandfather is a sheriff and has been in law enforcement all of his life. When he was a patrolman in 59, he was getting groceries for my grandmother (who at the time was pregnant with my father) at the local store in Orangeburg, SC. He pulled into the parking spot and got out to go inside. A car pulled up next to him with 4 black guys and told him that he had taken their parking spot. He responded by saying he didn't see them and he was not moving, and proceeded to buy groceries in the store. Well, those 4 guys came into the store looking for him (armed with knives and at least one gun). After the dust settled, 3 body bags and 1 died 6 days later in the hospital. My grandfather has one bullet hole in his shoulder and 3 nice scars from a knife. I am damn sure glad my grandfather has a gun on him at all times.

PS: I found out that story while bream fishing in the Edisto River and asked my papa why he had a hole in his back( where the bullet exited).

    here goes...

why ??? exactly why do you feel the need to carry a gun ???

now...hold on one second, before you start calling me whatever...'cause trust me,you're wrong about me...i would never back down from anyone,at anytime,anyplace...i have beat up guys trying to get to a fight
i don't like guns-end of story...people carrying guns absolutley scares the shit outta me...offduty cops carrying guns scares the shit outta me too...i went to a bachelor party, probably 20yrs ago,2 offduty cops, both were carrying guns ??? why ??? i left, refused to go anywhere with these guys once i found out...walking around carrying a gun is asking for trouble...sorry guys...there's different scenerios here...if you carry large amounts of cash,i can see you carrying a gun, jewelery, same here...the average guy, walking around carrying a gun,why ??? i wholeheartedly believe in the first amendment, the right to bear arms, but, walking around carrying a gun isn't the smartest move out there...sorry...
if you need a gun for protection,i suggest you take a selfdefense course...

First off, its the second ammendment.
Second off, you dont have the right attiitude to carry a gun. Honestly, if your one of those who "never backs down from anyone at anytime..." fellows, then you dont need a gun. If your pride is that important, than, yeah... I see why your against carrying a gun!

I have carried a full size Sig P-220 since June of 2001. Never once had to draw down on someone... And, as far as I can remember, no one ever knew I was carrying. In the summer with just shorts and a tee-shirt... still carry with no one ever the wiser.

In that time, I have had numerous situations where someone tried to start stuff with me (I dont go to bars, or drink... these were people looking to pick a fight, not me asking for one). Each and every time, I did the hard thing. I walked away. They felt like they were the man. Yeah, I was miffed for a time, but me "not backing down" would have increased the likelihood of the situation going to gun! Not an option if me walking away means I just get a ding in my pride.

So to answer your question. I carry because I can. I want too, and because I realize that the police dont PREVENT crime, they INVESTIGATE crime. I dont need a gun99.9% of the time (as I am not small, and I boxed for 3 years) but that.0.1% of the time I do, I dont want to be with out.

You do what you need to for your own protection. But I suspect your "dont back down" attitude is going to get you in trouble a lot more that my "dinged pride" approach!

BTW... to the original poster, I also carry a .38 snubbie if I am at work, and am going to be sitting for long periods of time. Thats the only time a full size bothers me.... sitting. Standing, I dont even know the Sig is there. I carry the sig in a Blade-tech IWB holster.

I find myself with Jawz on this.

After reading this thread, I'm amazed that so many people are carrying. Anyone care to comment on why you carry? Where you carry (bars, trips, bad neighborhoods) and whether or not you have ever brandished your pistol? I would have guessed fewer than 1% of people were armed prior to reading this. Anyone care to offer what percentage of the public is armed at a given time?

I have hunted since I was a kid, I own a dozen long guns and I am a very good shot, but I would never dream of either owning or carrying a pistol.

I'm not judging, I just find it amazing that so many of you are armed. The one guy I know who owns a pistol is certifiable and just looking for a reason to use it. Everyone around here knows about him, but it's only a matter of time before he murders the Fedex guy trying to deliver a package.

I think that the fact so many carry and yet you almost never hear about it, is a testament to the fact that LAW ABIDING citizens are an asset, and not a menace to society. In Florida, when I got licensed, there was some 200K people with conceal licenses (back in 2001ish) and they said at that point only 99 had any criminal behavior since receiving thier license. IIRC almost all of those were traffic related... and I believe that 2 or 3 were actually weapons related.

Numbers may be off a tad, but the point was, you had a population group of 200K with only 2 people having brushes with the law for weapons violation. Thats pretty astounding.

Since Obama went in office, the local CCW instructors have been going 110% with capacity classes. I am sure the number of CCW permits in Florida is now approaching 1 mil. The fact that we arent constantly in the news is a testament to the fact that CCW reduces crime (look at the actual numbers on that one!)

I'm also surprised at the number carrying here. Don't have a problem with it, but just surprised. I personally don't have the need to carry, but I certainly do have protection in my home and in the open while in my truck. Problem with the truck thing is, is that I can't have rounds nearby, thus defeating the purpose if quick response is needed. 12 gauge in the house is enough I think.

    Very interesting topic......

This is strange but true, I have carried a consealed gun for more than 20 years, had all types carried everywhere dawn till dusk if you like on my bedside at night.
In the 20 years I've had to draw and defuse a situation only twice.
Both Occasions cornered, by 3 or more assailants whilst doing nothing more than walking home.
Within reason most of you guys live in a "green awareness" town or State, try living in a town were your life is only worth $10 Literally you can be killed for $10.
Carrying becomes a necessity not an option.
It's a pain, It's uncomfortable, you visit a house then were to park the piece, are there kids there, has he a safe?
There is an old book around by a fellow called Massob Aioobe called gun proof your kids, Massob is a swat team, sniper trainer, and runs coarses in both hand gun, rifle and shot gun defence. If he is still running courses get on one, as he will back you in court, as long as it was self defense.
Carry is personal, if you have the right mind set, and COULD use it then OK, allot of people without training end up having there own gun used on themselves.

    Let's put it another way...

You have the right to fly (pilot a plane)... just because you don't doesn't give you or anyone the right to keep those who want to from their rights to do so.

Another words, Sure I can go to the airport, buy a ticket and pretty much go where ever I desire. I desire to fly myself in a dated (but serviced) little, old puddle-jumper. It's my right to do so once obtaining the credentials and exhibiting the responsibility.

Same goes for a car, which I am sure you take advantage of that right (again, once obtaining the credentials and exhibiting responsibility).

So... it is YOUR right to carry or not to. Sounds like you made the decision not to... But it IS NOT your right to vote against my rights to do so.
