Yesterday in the belly of ours was a half digested blue fish with the hook and swivel still in th lip of the thing also a mes of menhaden..... i dont know what this fish was thinking...musta been hungry....

MY set up consists of a fishfinder rig....13/0mustad circle hook and what ever weight will hold bottom... we were using 8oz trinagle weight yesterday these are also better because they are easer to snap on to the fishfinder rig....bank sinkers are not as easy to snap

befor i tie my swivel to my main line i slide on the fishfinder rig.....put on my swivel & snap the swivel to 3' of 100lb andy i just use crimps here and the circle hook i snell....always snell circle hooks IMO.............If you have ever catfished it is almost exactly the same......
    hope this help
    cc out

I'll add a little tip from my experience cobia fishing. Instead of using the store bought fish finders with the plastic tops, make your own using a snap swivel and a regular swivel. I've had a lot of problem with the line cutting into the plastic while fighting fish and using heavy weight. I've had it cut my line from it.

Quick question.... I here most everybody say that Menhaden dead or alive are the ticket for cobia out of MHC. Will greenies (Thread fin Herring) live or dead work as well as Menhaden for bait. The reason I ask is because I can catch greenies much easier with a sabiki than searching for Menhaden with a cast net in the morning.

Yes they will work, but pogies are much more plentiful when you do find them and a little more time getting lots of FRESH pogies for bait and chum makes a big difference when you're in between a bunch of other boats doing the same thing.

and crabs. sometimes lots and lots of crabs. this particular fish was small, only 36 lbs. but he had an appetite like he was a lot bigger. I think he was trying to put on some weight for us. its not that good of a picture but I think there were 13 or 14 whole crabs and a bunch of little claws and couple fish. I pulled him off twice and stuck him on his 3rd attempt at my bait. that was just plain weird. he ate it the first time and my drag sung for about 15 seconds and then my bait popped out and tried to swim away. he circled it and ate it again and
I had him on for about 25 seconds this time. it popped out again and was trying to swim away again. he circled it more and ate it a third time. that time I had him on for about 20 minutes and ended his life. when we cut him open to check his stomach it was jam packed full of crabs and had more in his throat that he hadnt gotten all the way down yet. that boy was greedy and he paid dearly for it. oh yeah, I saw one chase down a little stingray once. he ate that sucker and was looking for something else to eat. 3 or 4 minutes later we see this little ray shot out of his mouth flying across the surface. looked like it was walking on the water. damn I love cobia fishing.
