Yes I do and most of the time it pays off.
All exceptionally good advice, gents. There are obviously some very good fishermen posting on this thread. Y'all know...
Ya cain't kechum whar they ain't.
An when ya git bit, ya prolly found 'em.
Work 'em hard an don'tcha go away!
Sounds simple, doesn't it? But SO many seem to miss the facts. Not you guys, though. Well done!
I would rather die a slow painful death than keep on the trolling straight after a bite. Even after a hookup I would run the marks over a few more times...foolish not to.

Every time...
Not a lot to add to the above info, but a couple details to consider. First, yes always mark the spots where you get your bites. You will often find a pattern by doing so. That pattern might be temp, direction, down sea/up sea, etc, but its easier if to determine if you have a point of reference to go by. Circles and figure eights might sound like either will do and they might, but they do offer some differences. I like the figure eight because it alternates which baits/rigs are in the clean water of the inside turn and also alternates the speed of each side. It really gives every bait/rig an opportunity to be clearly seen(cleaner water) and at different speeds(inside vs outside turn). Circles will usually come after a couple of tight figure eights with no bites. I use the circles in more of a search mode in an area. Its easy to make each following circle a little larger to re-locate what you are after. Its a good way to find that bait you just ran over but cant seem to find again because its on the move.
My two cents......
