Many thanks to those of you who responded so far; a heck of a lot of experience and knowledge and a willingness to share on this board. I do apprecate your insight.
I started researching the circle hook jig at the request of a few Cobia tourney guys who fished my jigs. This is a serious game for these guys from the Fl panhandle to the Ms coast. Some travel 200 + miles on a tourney day sight casting multiple offshore rigs / structure with limited opportunity; hence the stinger hook as insurance. The demand for a "legal" jig to attach strip baits is quite evident. I have been making them with an 8/0 34184 and rigging a Mustad #5379 stinger sized to the end of the skirt. Now I need to create the rig with a circle main hook. My hope is to build a rig that can be casted, dropped or trolled effectively.
Others have struggled with this as evidenced by this rig described in a fishing mag. I have been building Pomano / Flounder jigs with molded in circles for over a year and I think they work even better than the Js but these are light so there is not the concern of the hook performing.
With any luck I can get the mold modifications to Shawn Collins within the week. I would be glad to send you all a few of the protypes for testing if interested.
Recommendations on hook model #s would be appreciated as well.
