    I got the expensive kit from Melton's as a present, but I bought mine from here before that.http://www.bluemarlinchronicles.com/...ng_needles.htm They are $15.00 but if you know what size you need, you won't need the whole kit.

    perhaps I am showing my lack of knowledge here - but could you explain what you do with these? For my braid connections I have been using a uni to uni or a bimini ... maybe I should be doing something different?

    It is a video that shows Joe Shute performing the splice of a hollow core braid to a mono topshot (or windon). The reason for splicing as opposed to tying is that it is knotless. There is nothing to rub or get hung up on your guides as it comes through the rod to the reel. It is great for topshots or long leaders.
