    center console teaser spread

hello everyone, new member to the site, been reading and watching for well over a year, i have learned a lot and there are some seasoned captains here.

well...the boat is finally in the driveway and i have been doing lots of nightime reading on trying to get my troll spread together. had lots of success on the chunk bite this year, but a lot of frustration on the troll. did well on other center consoles, pretty much trying the same tactics. but i do not think thank i am pulling the correct teasers.
here is the question, for all of you who troll with a cc, what kind of teaser set up do you all use?? how many rods are you fishing?? some squid chains with a bucket teaser sounds like a good set up, then i hear that a bucket dredge is not worth my money??? i am concerned with pulling a larger mullet dredge. the boat is a 28 intrepid. 9 ft beam, obviously with twins.
    any help is greatly appreciated!!

Keep it simple and just go to squidnations webpage and pick up a set of pink squid and a set of ?alnatural? squid. rig them inline and put a big ass mold craft chugger in matching color off the end of them. you will have billfish trying to chew the chugger off of the end of it if you dont pay attention.

An easy option for you would be to use a downrigger set up off one of your back corners. You're gonna need some weight or a zwing. Only thing is, its not ideal for a cc as its going to sit back a bit further then you may like and you also may not be able to see it clearly bc most likely you may have some prop wash running over top part of the dredge, especially as you're making turns making that dredge 'swim and dance' If you are fishing for the dirty whites or a bill you may not see it right away. Now if you have yourself a nice old big 130 or 80 on a bent butt with a nice long stiff pole with a swivel tip that can handle the drag the dredge will put out, ideally you can run that pointing off the mid side of your boat at a 90 degree or back at a 45 degree angle so that dredge gets the max exposure and it winds up running just off your back corner in some much cleaner water with a nice naked or split tail around it for the taking as the straggler to the school. Also if you run it off your side you can see it as you make your turns and you can really see if you got any interested customers looking to pick off a free meal.

I run a teaser rod out the side of my ttop with a squid chain for meat fishing with a stiff rigged hook in the last squid. I will fish a 5 rod spread for meat not including the teaser rod. I learned my lesson the hard way about having stuff in the spread without a hook on a small boat.

Sail and white fishing I run a strip dredge off my downrigger. In order to get it in the clean water and keep it in eye sight you can pivot the downrigger and extend the boom if you the ability to. I will also run an ilander chain with a naked ballyhoo on it if not using the dredge. For sail and white I will fish a 4 rod spread. When doing this, if you mark bait deep drop your downrigger to the bait depth and slowly crank it up to try and raise any fish feeding on the bait. I raised 2 tight lipped sails last year doing this when they were feeding deep.

In a small boat keep it very simple and not cluttered.

Regardless of what tackle you buy, you should keep one thing in mind…….you should be pulling as much as the boat and the crew combined can handle. That goes for teasers and rigged baits and lures etc.

For example: if you have a 65 footer and a crew that spends most of the day inside where it’s cooler, and none of them really wouldn’t know what to do when you do have a fish on, pull four lines and have a nice day on the water. Forget about all the teasers you could be pulling because it’s going to turn into a real mess when you do hook-up.

On the other hand, if you have a 30ft. center console with a well oiled machine for a crew, where everybody knows what to do when the time is right, put it all out….7 – 12 lines and as many teasers as you have places to connect them.

that was pretty cool to witness sunday...

we have fished a bunch in 2 years and that was the first time pulling the squidnation squid and the first billfish to come up to the teasers..needless to say we will pull the squid from now on!!!

i have a good feeling about this years trolling season...
