    The Catcher's Mitt

the Catcher's Mitt is the trade mark of the invention i have been working on for the better part of a year. I got the idea at my best friends camp on Big lake. we go there and you can catch redfish off the dock. so the people we bring are catching fish all hours of the day and night. so we are catching, helping catch fish and cleaning fish like mad men. i was tired of having fish slime on my hands and clothes all the time.

i applied for a patent in june of last year. we have had a focus group/field testers since that time. the mitt is in its 3rd and final generation before manufacturing.

the mitts and sheath are hand made by me. the mitt is a Kevlar glove and sleeve that is put over a custom mold and then sprayed with a pvc coating and then painted with latex rubber. the sheath is made of Kydex.

We have been trying to get it made since june. it has been very difficult getting the one finger mitt made.....at least in quantities that i can afford. right now we are pursuing two tracks. one to have the mitt made in India and then making the sheaths and assembling here in Louisiana. the other track, i have a meeting with a lady tonight that has all the contacts with the big sporting goods chains and with manufacturers in China.

    wish me luck.

here are few random pictures. the second picture is of the first, second generation mitt. after i made it, late at night, i woke up my wife...she smiled and went back to sleep. the next morning she said let me look at the mitt.....you need to start selling those. i will post a few of the beginning later.

    The beginning

The first prototypes were just a key reel and a rubber coated glove that i cut the little and ring fingers and the back out of. i would use it when bass fishing to protect my thumb.

The pictures are of the first generation mitt. i used a sock over wooden mold that was coated with Plastic Dip to make the mitt part. then i glued this on a cut up rubber coated glove. It worked great but was as ugly as sin.

My bride, Libby, who has seen all my inventions since high school.....and usually just rolls her eyes at my ideas, was intrigued by this one. However, she advised me to keep my day job.

Mark, with the Kevlar glove, has this made it more spine proof from when we first talked? Looks great...

    Thanks Lee

the Kevlar glove makes it cut resistant. it will stop small sticks and it will stop you from getting a barb of a hook in all but the most violent of circumstances. and the over size feature...I've noticed that a lot of times, when a hook hits it, your skin is on the opposite side. so you avoid a lot of the sticks and all cuts that you would normally encounter on a long day of fishing.

After i get the up and going i hope to introduce an extreme model mitt that will be puncture "proof". Just getting the mitt made in the current version has been long undertaking.
