NOW HERE IS A GREAT TOPIC......AND A TUFF ONE TO CONQUER....
ONE THING THAT MAY HELP .....7 KNOT IT TO THE INLET GOING AND COMING.I KNOW YOU WERE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING BETTER....SORRY
SEEMS 32 GALLON EXTRA IS WHAT YOIU NEED FOR SAFETY....
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH A COLLAPSABLE USING GAS?
COME ON GUYS.....LET'S GET THE 'CREAM OFFSHORE.
if you're running outboards, the best approach is to use the portable tanks...plug these tanks into the racors and run them till they're empty...then move the tanks forward to get them out of our way...
the fuel bladders...not on a bet !!! i wouldn't reccomend them under any conditions,EVER !!!
another appoach is to add an aux fuel tank...there's allways room, you just gotta look for it....i've added fuel tanks to quite a few boats...this is the safest, but it's also the most expensive way to go....
avoid carrying fuel in 5g cans, then trying to transfer fuel from the cans into the main tanks...you're asking for trouble !!! anyone that suggests that,or actually does that,is living on borrowed time....
I'LL BE DANG IF JAWZ DIDN'T MAKE THAT ONE VERY VERY CLEAR!!!!!!THANKS JIMMY! THIS IS THE INPUT I WAS HOPING TO SEE
WILL YOU ELABORATE A BIT MORE ON CONNECTING TO THE RACORS AS YOU MENTIONED FOR THE MECHANICALLY DISABLED SUCH AS MYSELF? IS THIS A EASY CONNECT/DISCONNECT?
MY FUEL LINES ARE THREADED INTO THE FILTER ......
WHICH BRING TO MIND ANOTHER QUESTION: HOW DANGEROUS IS IT DISCONNECTING THE FUEL LINE FROM THE SEPARTORS? I AM THINKING ABOUT THE "FRICTION" WHEN TURNING THE WRENCH
THANKS AGAIN JIMMY FOR JOINING IN ON THIS ONE!
Another thought would be losing prime, maybe a set of valves or something.
I second the "NO" to bladders and 5 gallon molotov cocktails.
most every boat has the racors easily accessable, right ?? look at the top of the filter housing, these usually have 4 ports,2 "in" lines and 2 "out" lines, right ??? add valves to the "in" lines...use just a barb fitting on one of them...this one is the aux fuel connection...pretty easy stuff huh ??? use a simple zip tie for securing the hose to the barb...when you want to run the extra fuel, shut the vlave off for the main tank and open the aux valve...real simple stuff huh ???
remember...this is not for gas inboards or stern drive set ups !!! it's also not for diesel boats....this is for outboards only !!!
absolutley !!! read that thing...does it say anywhere on it..."uscg approved"??? i'll answer that...NO !!! it's basically a balloon, you fill it with fuel...what happens if that thing gets punctured ?? a real problem...can't get punctured huh ?? would you bet the fine you're gonna get it can't get punctured ???
diesel boats,i reccomend a permanent aux tank be installed, with a transfer pump, this will transfer the fuel in this tank into the main...if you don't do it this way, you're gonna need an elebrate set up of valves to control the feed and the return lines...it's easier to run a transfer pump to feed the main tank....
Very good topic...so if I'm understanding you correct Jaws, there is no "easy" way to bring extra fuel for a diesel inboard? Thanks for the guidance.
absolutley...i've seen some set ups though....i've seen guys with a plastic 55 g drum and a hand pump...![]()
pretty funny stuff....the plan was to get to where they were going, then transer the fuel into the main, using the hand pump...
these are only my opinions guys...for the outboard powered boats,i gave what i would do,i've done this myself,it's safe and it works well...the gas powered inboards and stern drives, you've gotta install an aux tank, there's no other way to do it safley...the diesel boats, same deal....
