Saturday I had only one thing in mind and it was SPADEFISH !!!
Picked up 3 buckets of jellyfish at the cape and headed to Atlas to try out my 10 lbs test fluoro and baby hooks....
Anchored up and started chumming this strange food for a fish... The spades showed up as did a dive boat which and the kids were already playing with some other fish. What also showed up was a Dive boat. Within minutes we had bubbles from a dozen divers under the boat and there went my spade trial!!!!
The kids wanted to send jigs down to see how divers compare to AJ's but instead we pulled up the anchor and took off. Never would I allow my divers to go under a fishing boat had I been the Capt. of that boat................
Anyway we headed further out and abandoned the idea of Spades!
"Pelagic Magic" pulled up this red on the first drop and we thought it would be all business.... He even said I wish Bicoto was around!
But we were covered by AJ's and almaco's plus sandtigers that started cleaning up every decent bait that went down!
We put out small hooks and loaded some nice Beeliners. Marc was the first one to start the dance releasing also lots of small american reds that should be ripe next year!
Patrick who was back from Wisconsin where he discovered walleye and fresh water baracuda fishing abandoned the idea of a grouper and went for the color red!
Gilles & Lucke got to get there share of work on some AJ's and I never got to touch a SPADEFISH! My day will come...
Sunday was family time and in the evening Jacky took us out to meet his favorite pets with lots of action in between Harkers Island and Beaufort...
He has had lots of free time to figure out this fish and it is just so relaxing fishing for these babies dreaming already about redhead season!
