We had a great weekend and am now back in PBO so I can make a post. Seabiscuit was coming to fish on Saturday, so we spent July 4th prospecting offshore with Jacky and Marc. We trawled a couple hours and landed 16 dolphins and brought a sailfish to the boat but don't have photos to show.
Next we pushed off to the shelf to try and find some good bottom fish. We wondered how the current would be with the new moon tides. We'd never seen the tide so low in Core Sound. Sinkers had a hard time staying on the bottom and Jacky brought up the only grouper.
There were plenty of donkeys and it was a long ride up from 330'...
With not the best day, we started stressing that we wouldn't be able to show Seabiscuit some good action on Saturday!!!
Seabiscuit came to spend the evening with us and we had a nice time sharing fishing stories!
Saturday morning the early wind reports were not good, so we had a lazy start. Patrick, who was scheduled to go out with another boat saw his trip cancelled due to the weather, so we waited for him to get back and then headed out thinking we'd just stay at the inlet. Fortunately the sea was fine so out we went. Found some good baits and headed to our first spot. The choppers found us quickly.
Biscoto showed us how it was done on the gags and Patrick followed on his trail.
The only thing I was good for was reef donkeys!!!
We went to our next stop and Jacky found what we were looking for, a good red, but it was our only keeper. Luke, who was fishing with us for the first time got to pull up some nice fish, too.
Seabiscuit is such a pleasure to have on the boat. He coached Marc while he battled an AJ, then he put us to shame with the biggest gag and alamaco of the day...
All in all a great day to be on the water, despite the forecast. Not being the only adult on the boat was a treat, especially because he's such enjoyable company and a great angler. Can't wait to do it again!
