Cape Fear Blue Marlin Tournament

Well it's all but pathetic 13 boats thats right 13 are fishing this year only 2 local boats all the rest are from MHC tells you someting when the local crowd won't even rally to fish. This was once one of the best tournaments in the state what a shame. It used to be in the middle of may when the fish moved up the beach right before big rock. Maybe it's time for a re up and get things rolling like days of old it's a shame Wrightsville Beach can't have a decent tournament to save its life we got the best inlet on the east coast plenty of marina space and decent fishing i did hear there were 3 sails caught today. Maybe it can be the Cape Fear Saildog tournament.

If a Marlin tourney is going to be held out of WB, it should be in April or May.

If a Marlin tourney is going to be held out of WB, it should be in April or May.

I agree, it is a great inlet. Not much more of a run to the grounds than MHC. The tournament should be earlier in the year, especially not on a holiday like the 4th of July. I know that,s just how it fell out this year.

I fished it back in 2000 - Had a good crowd of boats fishing - and lot of the MHC crowd came down for the tournament - I was in May at the time - right when it should be for the fish...

Take note tourney committee!!! Time to rethink the dates and stategy to make this a successful event and represent Southern NC.
