Can You ID This Fish ??

Well the charter cancelled this morning, but we weren't going to stay tied to the dock. I had just converted the old school "Bat Cave" helm to a flush mount style and added a new Lorance HDS system, and I needed to learn the new instrument. The first two photos are the before and after. We ran north and trolled up a bunch of snapper blues which are going to come in real handy in next weeks offshore tournament, as sword/ bigeye baits. The bottom fish is a visitor, it jumped on a Clark spoon, can you ID it ?? This will be too easy for you Southern boys, we don't see these up north very often.

Oh boy, I'm going to drag these responses up to the Jersey board! I thought you guys would definately nail it.... Up north here opinions are split between banded rudderfish and juvenile amberjack. I can pretty much rule out the rainbow and blue runners, and I don't think we get almaco jacks here, but telling them from amberjack can be pretty tough.

After reading the NJ fish min. size limits......I have concluded beyond all reasonable doubt......It' a rudder or Almaco(14" min) and NOT a greater Amberjack(30" min.).
You can thank me later Capt. Rich.

    Banded Rudder.

You can see the vertical bands faintly in the picture; they're usually really obvious when they're in the water. They hang with dolphin under flotsam a lot.

    Thumbs up

I can't help you with the fish, but, I do like the re-do on the helm. I'll be interested in your thoughts on the Lowarance HDS8...I have one on my new boat and I'm trying to figure it out. I also need to take it by Bass Pro so they can install the 4.0 update that enables the hot key option.

Agitated- I've only used it once, I think I like it, it's more difficult to type in a waypoint than with the old Northstar, so far I'm just dragging the cursor to the numbers I want and then hitting Go To. What's the hot key option?? This unit is brand new, didn't see that in the instruction book.

Holwachagot- I'll thank you now !

I am going to agree with Tuna Nasty. Its not an Almaco and the bluish coloration as seen in the pic. show up on Rudderfish and not on Lesser Amberjacks, which would have been my second choice.
