Hmmmm... I'm not familliar with that exact breed but it appears to be similar to a couple we have around here. Our palmetto ones don't open til mid summer. Thats a golden child fruit. There is actually a market for their berries I think as jams and for even some kind of diet suppliment. I see our land scape crews grab evey one they can. On the roads I see pick up trucks full of them.
Another kind that looks like yours just opened here but the fruit is yellow when open and takes a while to ripen. I notice that they draw birds and bees like makos to a chum log when they first open.
Our bird of paridise has been opening multiple pods the last couple weeks. As with all things Carolina your a few steps behind us Florida guys... Patience good sir Box... Soon you will reap the benefits of your exotic botanical...

    Box,

I had some mexicans doing some shingle work on the house after a hurricane and they ate the fruit off my tree. one said the best thing to do with it is fill a gallon jug with the fruit and fill it with tequila. when you finish the tequila then you can eat the fruit.

Jesus Box, you'd better be careful...do you have any idea what that turns into when it's ripe?
