Agree 100% with your take on this touchy subject. Having been in the "stressful" position, I know exactly the toll it takes on the KARMA of the boat. My experience has always been if the boat dont have karma--pack it in. Ya cant win a tourney without karma.

I agree Marty, but I want to throw out a few things from the other side of the coin. The Capt/owner has responsibilities as well that need to be put forth. Owner/Cap needs to CLEARLY, in writing, delineate costs and how they break out line by line and what other costs might be incurred if any (food, beer, bar tabs, lodging, etc). Few do this. The owner/cap needs to clearly outline roles and responsibilities prior to anyone committing money. Think about it. Percentages need to be clear and in writing. Lastly, remember that although it's fun, it's also big money so be smart, that means everyone...

My 2 cents
First cent: I think the boat owner should get a double share of winnings.
Second cent: Not only do you not back out at the last minute but, you need
to do your share of the work. I fished in a tournament last year and we won 50k.
However one of our crew was drunk and never got out of the bunk and we had to give
him his share anyway. This year we made it clear if you don't do your share, you won't get
your share.
