    The BULL !!!!!

What a beautiful day to be on the water. I had the opportunity to fish aboard the Trophy with Captain John along with Matt (JMS-ILM) and Bryan Hunt (BTH284). As we past by Fort Macon this morning we were greeted by a calm inlet and calm seas. Fishing was not on Fire by any stretch of the imagination but we squeaked out a respectable day. We ended the day with a nice Wahoo around 30 Pounds, A Big Mahi and a Sailfish. Thanks once again John for the Ride. Sorry for the short report but I am really tired. I am sure some of the crew will chime in here tomorrow with more details.

Nice day on the water with a few fish to boot. I'll take that anytime. Looks like that old bull got hooked in the head and gaffed in the tail. What time is dinner?

Jeff that was actually an old 14/0 steel mustad hook broken off in the back gaff shot was on the other side. Not a bad day spent chasing the billed ones out in 100 fathoms. Few slinger mahis were caught up inside 30 fathoms from the radio chatter and a wahoo here or there. Conditions were great lots of rips and grass lines just not many fish only saw 1 mahi all day around all that grass on the 100. As usual enjoyed a great day with friends and a new fellow fisherman that i hope will fish with us more in the near future. Oh yeah nice work on the drop back Mike.

yes dave that is a gaff hole in the dorsal....couldnt do it again if i tried!

forecast lined up just right for us to make a go at it sunday....ended up being one of the prettiest days in a while. john, mike, bryan, and i. pulled out about 0620 headed for the low 500's. set them out between 30-40 fathoms and started working the break between there and 50 some fathoms. havent even gotten the mess out when we get a boil on the dink in the short rigger. fish makes a good run, but never shows itself. ended up being a little skipjack. 30 minutes later get a nibble on the bridge pole and box a mid 30's wahoo. no more bites in there so john points us out towards the deep. come across a few beautiful changes just over 100 fathoms.....good water color, 2/10's temp change, a little tide, scattered to patchy weeds.....just no life around it besides a few tripletails and a half dozen flyers. we start trolling along it for a while and a big mahi pops up and is just lazily following behind the right short dink and hawaiian eye chain. mike gets him to eat the short rigger and while he is feeding him the fish eats the long rigger on the way out of the spread and both come tight. fish still put up a fuss even though he was tied to a dink pole and a 50. ok so maybe there is a little life around this change. troll up and down it a handful of numbers in both directions for nada. make our way back in to 30 fathoms when a sailfish pops up behind the right short dink. way hot bite....mike feeds the fish beautifully and comes tight textbook style. pretty work mike. pound that area pretty good for the remainder of the day with nothing to show.

beautiful day with a couple fish in the box and laundry on the rigger. no complaints, life is good.
