A friend of mine just sent me a couple of pics from his recent trip to India fishing for mareesh? (sp) not sur the name exactly, maybe someone here knows...thought they look a little like barramundi in Australia?

Sorry Flat, I don't even know. He has a piece of property near ours in Panama and we have kept in touch. He lives in London and probably takes a fishing trip every other month...the guy is a maniac

Mahseer are a member of the carp family. Gets up to 100 lb or more. Often found in fast rivers from the north of India (Himalayan foothills) to the south of the country. Considered the subcontinent's greatest game fish. Mahseer fishing used to be very very popular amongst the Brits during the colonial days - plenty of Indian anglers still go after them. As you would expect, threatened by native overfishing, habitat destruction etc.

There was some great footage of them in the 'Freshwaters' episode of the BBC Planet Earth (co-produced with Discovery Channel) documentary.

Squirtis. If you talk with him again i'd be very intersted as to where he is fishing. I'm heading over to Chennai for a month starting next saturday and when i'm not face deep in curry i'd like to do some fishing.
