    Breaking in the new girl

After being boat less for almost 3 months, I finally picked up the new SeaBiscuit last Tuesday. Still a couple of little things missing, but I was eager to break in the new motor, at least.

Run her a bit yesterday and she seemed ready to go to the deep. Matt (JMS-ILM) had been itching to go and I had promised a trip to Alex (Unoyankeefan) a while back.

Off we went at first light in weather more suitable for sea trialing a boat rather than fishing. It wasn't big, but it was choppy and windy. All shorts of West winds blew today. Anchor course varied between 350 and 190 degrees! Whitecaps stayed arround all day.

Made bait at an near shore wreck first thing. While Matt and Alex were working the sabikis, I dropped a jig and caught the first keeper fish on the new Biscuit, a little flounder. Thank you Lord!

We slowly made our way offshore looking first for gags in the 20 - 30 mile range, hoping it would later lay down. A keeper here and there, until Matt connected with a large

Alex hasn't had much bottomfishing experience, but once he got the hang of it, he managed to land keeper scamps, gags and reds. This fat boy was his best of the day

Matt saw the fat puddinhead and got jealous, so he baited up with a slab of meat and brought up one of his own

With the ever switching winds, we rarely got to hold tight for more than a few good drops, so we picked away, taking a fish or two from each spot. When I was no longer willing to fight with the anchor, we picked up and headed home with what ended up being a decent catch.

The new Biscuit brought home the gravy!

    Cheers,
    SeaBiscuit

I can just hear the grouper chatter right now. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES. Biscoto is coming with a new ride. Great catch fellas. Congrats on the catch and the new ride. She sure is sweet. Great way to break her in. Proven on the first day. With Biscoto at the helm many boats have been proven. Put this one on the list too. I wish you many full boxes. Slip.

It was really cool being on the maiden voyage of Sea Biscuit V! Thanks again to Nick and Matt for a great time and some great pointers on slaying those bottom lurking slobs. The wife loved the slab of meat I baked up for her last night so I think I overcame the “So you’re off to go fish all day again?!” objection. I know Nick has to be looking forward to seeing that Contender perform in a flat sea the way she was begging to be cut lose yesterday.

    Nice job

Very nice report there Nick..glad you guys go into the fish.
Yesterday was a very tough day for us..and abit bumpy to go to our planned destination. The current nor fish would cooperate with us. So we fished for a while and headed back nearshore after the spanish..with not much luck. But thats fishing.

Tryed getting back to you on the radio but i believe we were out of range. Glad you guys had a good day and the boat ran good!

    Brandon
