    Braided line for downriggers

I was thinking about putting braided line on my downriggers. What would you guys suggest for line weight? Also, what sort of knot would you use to attach the swivel at the end?

    Thanks,
    Tim

I use 200lb PowerPro on my Downrigger. With a 10lb weight, I get a heck of a lot less scope than with the cable. Also, the downrigger "hum" dissappeared.

I was looking at the 200lbs line but wanted to make sure it was enough. I'm looking to pull planners with it too. I tie an AWFUL bimini!! Any other suggestions? Not familiar with the cats paw, I'll have to look that up.

    Thanks Guys!!

Going to be doing this myself as well this season. For specifically that reason...to pull planers.

Can you trip a planer with a downrigger? Any other rigging tips you guys would like to share?

I use 100 lb power pro. Have pulled smaller planers with it, no problem. Double line improved clinch knot works well for me with braid.

It's definitely trickier to trip on the downrigger, and I'm not the best at it, but it can be done. I hold on to the spool while i loosen the downrigger to freespool. Then let the line run off for a sec before I stop it quickly. Usually takes me a couple of tries but it works sometimes. Half the time I still have to slow way down and just crank it in!

I'm running 200 lb braid on mine. I've been using a Surgeon's knot to make the loop and then attaching the snap with a cat's paw.

The surgeon is easy to tie, and I haven't had any issues with it.
