How about getting those knots out..........
Sometimes you can pick them out........
Other times you wrap the PP around the handles of two pliers ( to prevent cutting your hands ) with the knot in the middle & pull.........It will either come undone or break.........ICM
they make picks for the exact reason of un doing knots on reels. Its made for baitcasters but can be used for spinning reels if need be. Ive found just pull line out untill you get to the knot and normally its just looped around another loop that appears there some how.
no telling how much moneys worth of braid ive had to snip off in the last few years.
sucks when it happens, ive basically stuck to power pro for everything now, and havnt had a big wind knot in iuno how long..
several tiny ones that pull right out, but yeah, cutting off braid sucks
whats even worse is when you here that damn knot go through the guides...just makes ya go "sumvabitch...."

If you cut it off,,,,dont throw it away, just splice it back together with a double uni.
It works for me................
Ok, my 2 cents...With braid, as stated, the knot comes from 4 things, Wind, slack, line twist and OE
All four will cause knots...pain in the butt knots.
Now lets look at each one of these...
Wind...do not fish into the wind with braid and the rod tip up, always keep your rod down in the wind. Braid for the most part has no memory (which is why I like it) and is why it gives the knots we love to hate....
Slack...is the killer of braid. Slack in the spool will cause inner line to come off of the inside of the spool when casting, very much like a loop over the spool. Slack in the spool will also cause the line wrap around a guide when casting. Limp line will knot up around everything...
Line twist...I buy bulk and spool in on my inshore rods myself. It does get line twist in it though, I can not see it on some of my lines, but it is there. To get ot out, I do the same as mono and troll it behind the boat without any thing on it and it comes out, it does take a little longer to get out that mono...
Operator Error, in my opinion, (and we all know what they are worth...) is to blame for almost all the knots we get in braid, the most common is the deep dreaded loop over the spool. This comes from us not closing the bail by hand and not looking at the line. Allowing the line on the spool to become loose, twisted, fishing into the wind with the rod tip up, IMO, fall under OE.
Now a couple of tips for getting line knots out...
1; Do not pull the line tight or fish out your cast as the latter will tighten your line...Reel you line in as quickly as you can and remove your knot.
2; Allow you line knot to dry out slightly before trying to undo the knot...
3; Keep both ends of the line slack when undoing the knot...
4; Use a pick to help you undo the knot. The one I like the best is on my toe nail clippers. The finger nail file on the clippers has a blunt curved dull tip. This allows me to push it through a knot with out cutting or picking the main line. Once I get the knot open some, I can slide the loop open on the file so I can pull the smaller loop through it as well as using the curved part to pull out a small loop. Most of the time you will find the line twisted within the knot and this is indicating that you have line twist in your line.
Hope the helps you guys...![]()
