IT IS MUCH EASY TO PUNCH A DART THAN USE THAT HEAVY ASS GAFF
WHEN THAT DART GOES INTO THE HEAD...IT IS JUST ABOUT CURTAIN CALL TIME
AND THE THICKNESS OF A FLYING GAFF HEAD IS WAY TOO BIG AND DESTROYS TOO MUCH MEAT
SOME DARTERS HIT THE TUNA IN ANY PLACE THEY CAN DEPOENDING ON THE FISHES ACTIVITY ON THE STERN....LUCKILY I HAVEN'T HAD TO DEAL WITH THAT.......MINE POON TIME IS LIMITED AND THE TUNAS HAVE SOFAR BEEN CO-OPERATIVE
THERE IS NO NEED TO HAVE A FLYER IN MY OPINION ON BFT
THE ONLY APPLICATION I FOR FLIER BY ME ON IS A BLUE MARLIN KILL TOURNY
I GUESS THE SHARK HUNTERS USE A FLYER THOUGH
Thanks Matethats what I wanted to know

been meening to ask this for awile, was just showing the vid to a couple of work-mates and as were sitting here watching it, the song "Spoon-man" by Soundgarden came on the radio and reminded me![]()
What about a swordfish, gaff it or stick it?
GUYS I WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW I HAVE ONLY POONED VERY FEW FISH...I AM LEARNING AS WELL
BUT I DO KNOW A POON IS "UNDER CONTROL" MUCH EASIER THAN A FLYER"...LESS WEIGHT ETC....
I WISH WE COULD DART BLUE MARLIN IN KILL TOURNYS!!!!!
WHERE IS ...ARE...THE POON WARRIORS WHEN WE NEED THEM!
Another reason for the Poon is that it can be thrown at the fish and end the game sooner then waiting for a fish to come within range.
the Harpoon is not IGFA legal thus cannot be used in any IGFA abiding tournament. I know that Chris at Poon harpoons has been championing the effort to have this rule amended.
Had never used a Poon and didn't even know those things existed when we were in Africa... Tried it for the first time this year on our first BFT... Yeap the beast turns into a puppy on the leach... and the curtain can go down fast.
I think the Big Marlins would turn BAZEURK if you stuck'em a little green! Have had quite a few close calls on them and the poon on a small boat would maybe have made it worse!

We're seriously considering going to a poon instead of the flying gaff. Couple of things I like in addition to what Mr Box mentioned is the pointy end is facing away from you. I have a few battle scars on my boat from the bigger fish going biserk, especialy the green ones you need to get in the boat quick or risk losing them due to multiple hook up snafu's.
