    any reason to go with a 24 over a 16? i have the tiagra 80 and the planer rod... just need the old salty planer now

    The 24 is gonna pull deeper for the same amount of string out... It will also add a good bit more pull on the drag... Don't have exact numbers

    According to the Old Salty Site...

    #12 - 175 ft
    #16 - 200 ft
    #24 - 225 ft
    #32 - 250 ft

    thanks, i saw that on the website as well but wanted to see if anyone had experience (pros and cons) running each. if not, i guess i will go with the #16

    Your not gonna need the #24 for the fish this time of the year they are all biting in 90-100 feet of water. The fish in the spring though are in 120-180 feet of water so you need a bigger blade with the angle of the current.

    I can second the Triton 80w. After seeing Box's setup I knew I had to give it a shot. Someday I will be able to get the Tiagra...(saving for his rigging class first) but you can pick up a Triton fairly resonable but you loose the two-speed.
    Regardless what you use to pull it with the system works and should be part of your spread...
