I am curious to see if anyone has ever tried or been bowfishing? It looks like a ton of fun but I am curious on where to do it and what makes the fish jump?

went bowfishing once int he river near my house, go at night and spot light them if you want to go. look on the flats and the fish will be there, or the mouths of creeks. we shot carp and gar but saw a lot of other fish. make sure it is legal where you are doing it. I wasnt to thrilled with it because the guys i went with were mainly just shooting and throwing the fish back to die.
The jumpers are Asian Carp, mucho bad fishies they are an invasive species. They think its the noise of the motors that makes them jump.
i love it!!!! im not a good shot but i love it is great we shoot about 30 everytime we go out!!!
Thanks for all the info but where do you go do it at Austin?
Jeremy
I CAN TELL YOU WHAT MAKES A MAHI JUMP........THE FIBERGLASS SHAFT AS IT PLOWS INTO HIS ASS!!!
I HAVE A SPECIAL BOW FOR OFFSHORE MAHI.....NO RELEASE OR TABS NEEDED...JUST INSTINCTIVELY POINT AND LET GO...ARROW IS CONNECTED TO MONO AND MONO TO SPINNING ROD......AND AIM UNDER THE TARGET
I was off Morehead with Shane and Rick on the old Second to None boat and we got absolutely covered up with gaffers on a weed line. We put as many as we wanted in the box and before heading offshore in search of a blue one Shane made a quick radio call and in a few minutes the "black boat" comes steaming into sight. Instead of putting out the trolling gear she spun around and backed into the weed line with a bunch of red necks flinging arrows at the mahi off the stern. Damdest thing I had ever seen out there.
Reckon who that big ole red neck was????![]()
Jeremy,
I saw something on Versus(then the outdoor network) and it seems they were fishing in a river in Kentucky and the carp were jumping all over the place even in the boat. They were having some kind of tournament to see wh could bring in the most fish. Seems they are very invasive and are displacing native fish so they have tournaments to get rid of them
