Bottom Fishing with Extreme Measures 7-14-09

Booked a bottom fishing trip with Capt Brian Harrington on Tuesday, July 14. John,Darren and I met Capt B and were heading out of the inlet when we spotted a huge school of shad with big spanish mackeral jumping through them. Capt B started grinning and I knew he was going to stop. He pulled out his 10 foot net and pulled in a full load of bait, made up a wire rig,and in minutes we were trolling one rod around the school. Wham! Spanish on in less than 5 minutes of him stopping the boat. Got him in and headed for the big water. It was Darren's first trip offshore and I was worried he might not be able to handle the waves but he did great, guess we will have to include him on the big boat next spring. Long story short we caught b-liners,triggers,bass,jacks were plentiful and even some mahi that came in for a closer look. All in all a beautiful day on the water and non stop action. I even tried to take a break a couple of times but the "Beast" would not hear of it. Thank you Brian for a wonderful trip, you made the day fly by with some fast and furious fishing and I hate we had to leave. Oh by the way it took over two hours to clean all those fish. One day I am going to get too old to fish with you. I'll see you in the Fall.

No comparison whatsoever. I had to get Brian to show me how to clean one. It was a first time for all of us on many of the fish we caught. I have fished with Brian for 3 spring trips so I think I have figured out how to clean them Mahi for sure. We grilled some triggers that night. It was smiles all around the table.

Another day at the office for the Beast.

A great way to do the Triggers is whole on the grill...skin and all(gutted of course). You won't believe how good it is like that. Best part about cooking them that way is....you don't have to dull the chainsaw blade cutting through their skin. Thanks for the report and pics.
